The English Writer ‘s Cottage is a Wonderfully Charming and Unique home! The “English Writer’s Cottage,” earned its name for its English Cotswolds meets Santa Barbara bungalow aesthetic, & sits perfectly situated in the historical and picturesque Austin Ave/ Castle Heights neighborhood, just 3-5 min from Baylor & Downtown Waco. Don’t miss this special house!
When you walk in, you are greeted with 12 foot coffered ceilings and cozy rooms for all your guests. Wonderful touches abound where modern meets old world. Jill Mashburn Barrett, creator of the world famous Common Grounds coffee shop by Baylor University, and The Falcon +Owl vintage home goods & interior design studio, has added her special touch of keeping true to the homes vintage, bungalow roots, while weaving in modern design features to make your stay truly enjoyable.

Just as good the second time!

My second time staying at the Writers Cottage and it was equally as fabulous as the first stay. Came with friends this time and we loved the relaxing atmosphere. All aspects of our stay were wonderful!

Lovely staycation!

We loved staying here! Was perfect for a quick getaway! Home is interestingly comfortable and full of beautiful art pieces that made for a lovely 4th of July! Enjoyed the tasteful living room furniture and quiet neighborhood.

Weekend in Waco

We are four besties from Dallas spending the Waco who had the best time in this wonderful cottage. We oooh’d and awe’d the entire weekend as we found new things about this home that made our stay extra special. It was perfect for our weekend getaway but we could have easily stay a few days longer. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to spend time at this gem!

Baylor graduation weekend

Beautiful property with exquisite furnishings & art. The home is spacious, has plenty of seating & a fabulous kitchen that is fully stocked to prepare meals. We will absolutely rent this again for future Waco trips! Loved the backyard and we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit!

Beautifully renovated historic home

The house is a beautiful home build in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The home's history is fascinating. We will definitely stay again when we travel to Waco.

Girls Weekend in Style

Comfortable and beautiful. Layout of bedrooms and baths provided privacy when desired yet decor allowed comfortable places to just sit and visit with each other. Relatively close to Magnolia Market and great restaurants.

Friends Weekend Getaway

We all loved the property!. Just pristine and beautiful. Very comfortable, with plenty of room. Beds were amazingly comfortable. My sister and two of our friends we have known since childhood, had a weekend getaway to catch up with each other. We will return!

My girlfriend and I brought our moms for a weekend away and our first visit to Waco. The house is super cute, and pictures 100% represent the house! We loved the big kitchen, and the beds were super comfortable. It was an amazing weather weekend so would have loved if the outside was a little more cleaned up, but Texas weather - you never know! Definitely would come back.

In need of some maintenance…

My friends and I recently visited Waco for Spring at the Silos and stayed in this cute bungalow. The kitchen was well stocked, the home had beautiful furnishings and the beds were very comfortable. It has the potential for a five star rating that many others have given it. However, there were several maintenance items that need attention and the outside was very neglected. We were not able to enjoy the fire pit as we had hoped. I shared my feedback with the owner but didn’t get a reply. I hope that they spend some time getting the property back to the condition that everyone sees in the photos.
