Large family home at the gateway to Périgord. Pets allowed

In the heart of a 12th-century village rich in history, the Saint-Martin gîte offers spacious accommodation for six people, with a large, functional kitchen, TV lounge, library and board games, shower room and toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs you'll find three spacious bedrooms, Bohemia, Pop Art and Romance, all set in a vast, wooded, enclosed park with garden furniture and a BBQ. For nature lovers, it offers a haven of peace for the whole family to enjoy this pleasant home, and your four-legged friends are also welcome. Just a stone's throw away is the Tardoire, a river full of fish, and along its banks there are numerous caves and prehistoric sites to remind you of the nearby Dordogne. Montbron has a canoeing centre, bike hire and shops nearby, not forgetting visits to the many surrounding châteaux. 25 minutes from Angoulême station, a town known internationally for its comic strip festival and its many museums, and 1 hour 30 minutes from the ocean.

What's nearby

  • My dad's friend owns a really cool karting circuit in Pageas, a few kilometres from Chalus where I grew up in France.
They are both hunters. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, but a lot of people from that generation in rural France do like hunting, fishing, fetching mushrooms.
There are woodlands all around the karting circuit. My dad and his friend have built some platforms in the trees, and from mid-October to mid-November they go there every morning to shoot migrating birds. Those ones are some sort of wood pigeons going from Eastern Europe / Russia to North Africa.
I did my own shooting that morning... with my camera! The sunrise was spectacular with some nice pink colours and mist in the valley.
