Welcome to Lahemaa National Park in Estonia
"Cornelia" home is a beautiful country side house located in Lahemaa National Park in the village of Altja, a coastal old fishermen village in the northern part of Estonia. Altja exists of about twenty houses and a tavern (old inn) which is open at summer time only. Cornelia home is a private house and has been built by the owner, finished in 2013. It's surrounded by forests and sea. Twenty five breathtaking walking/hiking trails are set out in these forests.
Estonia is a low populated small country (1.5 million people at the size of The Netherlands), where the country side is pure nature and not spoiled by noisy amusement parks and high tech attractions yet. Time has stand still in Lahemaa Park. There is a lot to see and much to do, that will keep you as a nature lover occupied for more than a week. It is the largest protected park in Estonia and one of the biggest in Europe. It’s located in Northern Estonia 90 kilometers east from the capital Tallinn. The area covers 700 km². Forests are covering more than 70 percent of Lahemaa. The area is rich in flora and fauna. The park hosts the three most beautiful Manor Houses in Estonia, and many breathtaking walking trails. Wildlife, includes a population of foxes, boar, moose, and deer.
Estonia has a land climate which means cold winters and warm summers. Real winter months are January and February, temperature may fall below -15 degrees Celsius for a few weeks with lots of snow. There is no real spring like in Western Europe. After 1st of May temperature jumps from around zero to +20 degrees in just one week time. June, July and August are often warm or even hot. The autumn starts in September and last until the end of November. The forests are at this period most beautiful, of course.
A very nice stay for people who love and respect nature and are happy to spend a few weeks in Altja to explore the beauty of Lahemaa Park.
