Really enjoyed our brief stay here! The property was quiet and felt woodsy, but we were so close to town! The large, fenced in back yard was ideal for our pups!
Perfect location for a peaceful country getaway. Beautiful surroundings and very clean inside. Check in was easy, cabin has all the amenities for a great stay.
Annual guys trip for myself and a buddy. Terrific chance to relax and be away from work and kids and catch up with each other. Close to Valparaiso for shopping and food but still feels secluded. Highly recommended!
The location is perfect for our travel needs. We enjoyed the nearby Dunes and spent a day up in Chicago-land. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck at the end of the day.
I stayed two nights with my 10-year-old daughter. The wooded setting near the lake is nice (though there's no access to the lake); the fire pit in the yard is great; the beds were comfortable (though you might want to bring your own pillow if you like firm); the amenities were just right; and the location between Valparaiso and Indiana Dunes National Park is perfect.
We had a wonderful experience with this cabin. Eddi was incredible to communicate with. Incredibly minor issues was the bed was not very comfortable for me, but my partner found it to be fine. The kitchen was awesome but it was missing a cookie sheet and/or pizza pan. Many cobwebs around the back porch that we took some time cleaning up, but that was expected. Two great bedrooms even though we only used the one. Would be a great place for a family with just a couple kids. Didn’t get the chance to use the firepit because of weather, but it’s very nice and we will definitely use it next time!
I loved my stay! A friend and I took a long weekend to visit the Dunes, Chicago, and celebrate a Birthday. We enjoyed the proximity to everything and watching the birds in the backyard. I would love to stay again. It was so peaceful!
Took a short family vacation and wanted to be close to the Indiana dunes national lakeshore. This wa a perfect! About twenty minutes away, close to restaurants and amenities. We enjoyed the backyard area and fire pit. Looked just like the pictures! If we come back to valpo, we would stay here again!
Overall, the property had all the amenities we needed, was peaceful and just what we were looking for while on our road trip. We were within a short driving distance to the Indiana Dunes. The house was clean. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed. We enjoyed that there were outdoor spaces to relax in, but if there was one critique I could give is the exterior could use a little TLC that should not deter you from staying because overall our family and pup had a really nice stay.
We enjoyed our short stay very much. It was so nice to cook a homecooked meal after eating out for several days while staying in Chicago. We enjoyed having the opportunity to spread out and clean clothes. The area was beautiful and the house was very clean. We spent the evening playing games in the living room as it was spacious enough for all of us.
We love this cabin. It was very welcoming and clean. It was so peaceful sitting in the beautiful yard. The location is convenient to stores and sites but truly feels like being away from it all. The host answered questions right away. Highly recommended!
Our stay at Black Cabin was great! It’s in a very quiet location and has an awesome back deck and fire pit. We really appreciated all of the amenities that Eddi included; we had everything we needed.
If you’re looking for a hotel room this may not be the right choice for you. But if you’re looking for a quiet cabin like location that is close to all Valparaiso has to offer, I think you’d like this spot as much as we did. Eddi was a great host and easy to communicate with.
What a cute place! We enjoyed this little cabin in the woods. The inside was adorable and my kids loved it. The outside definitely needs a clean up to make the deck/back patio a little more enjoyable. This is located in the middle of the woods so I understand it's not going to be prestine or anything, the exterior just needs a little TLC. When we came back the second night, the outside flood lights did not turn on so it was very dark. This was a bit of a challenge with two super tired kiddos but it was manageable with a light from our cell phone. If you need a fan to sleep like I do, bring a travel fan. The ceiling fans are not operational without a light being on. My kids loved the bunk bed and the little snacks that had been left for us upon arrival. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights over the weekend. The location was what we were looking for - in the woods. It was perfect for bonfires and the fall festivities in the area.
That being said, we knew we were going into the woods so we figured there would be bugs, spiders, some general uncleanliness of being in a wooded area. But, the lack of cleanliness in the house made us leave almost immediately the last day. I have a three year old nephew who walked barefoot in the house and his feet were black from the first day. The floors were filthy and the bathroom was atrocious. Again e knew we were staying in the woods, but there was nothing even wiped down or dusted. We couldn’t open the windows because of the filth and we had to have the AC on during chilly nights in October because of that. We wouldn’t stay here again.
We loved the Cabin on Flint Lake! Beds were comfy and very clean. No weird or musty smells. The kitchen was STOCKED! We had several people over throughout the week for a meal, and the kitchen was even better than expected. All appliances worked great. There was even an air fryer! Property owner provided everything you might need - laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo, paper towels, utensils, spices, etc. Water pressure was excellent. A couple of reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars. Not the property owner's fault, but the road out to the cabin is TERRIBLE. If you're not used to Flint Lake roads, prepare yourself, A lot of potholes, and it can be precarious getting out onto the main road. Also, not a big deal, but we did not enjoy having to watch a YouTube video in order to be able to know how to work the door lock. Also had difficulty using the TV. The tech guy did come out to help us find the local channels, but we were only able to get them for about 30 minutes. I guess most people use their Netflix account out there, but we don't have one. All in all, excellent experience and would stay there again.
