Sun's Up-Bar Down! Hot Tub, Putting Green, Fire Pit, 8 Min Walk to 2 Beaches!

Welcome to our recently upgraded, spacious yet comfy and inviting family lake house! Feel the zen as you step on the front porch, outfitted with rockers and sofas. This home can be your getaway any time of year!

Located in the heart of Union Pier, a quick 4-6 minute walk to the corner bakery (Black Currant), market (Union Pier Market), mini-mart grocery store (Milda's), beach gear and rentals (Red Arrow Ride), frozen treats (Neon Moon Gelato), restaurant (Union Pier Social, Red Arrow Road House, Whistle Stop and Timothy's), breweries (Barn Dogg, Mangata Beer and Seedz).

Choose one of two public beaches (Townline or McKinley), each about an 8 minute walk from the property. Walk to Skip's Restaurant and Farmer's Market from May to September!

For security, there are two Ring cameras installed at both the front and back entrances.

This is a NO PET and and NO smoking/vaping property.
We ask our guests to please honor this policy as the the owners have serious allergies.

The main level of the home offers many gathering spaces.

There are two living rooms. The main/large living room has multiple sofas, a large tv with cable access and a Blu-Ray DVD player. A library of movies (and books and games!) is available for your stay, located on the shelves - Feel free to watch (read or play!) your favorites and please leave them for the our next guests. There is a gas fireplace and instructions regarding usage are on the mantle.

The smaller living room across the hall has a pull out sofa (twin). There is a tv with an attached DVD player, which is perfect when others want to watch their own shows/movies!

The spacious kitchen is stocked with plates, utensils and all your cooking needs. The island has chairs for three. There is also a chair at the desk area.

The kitchen flows into the dining room, which has 6 seats, but can seat 8 comfortably (feel free to move chairs from the kitchen).

The screened in porch has a table and chairs for 8. Enjoy the gas grill for cookouts during your stay!

The powder room is located off the hallway.

This home sleeps 11 comfortably with the main/primary bedroom (king) on the first floor. The bathroom is en-suite and includes a large shower, jetted tub and walk in closet with a double vanity.

There are four spacious bedrooms upstairs, each with beautifully vaulted ceilings.

The first upstairs bedroom has a bunk bed that sleeps 3 - The lower bunk is a full and the upper bunk is a single. This room has a walk in closet that is perfect for building forts, playing games and having an indoor camp night for younger children.

The second upstair bedroom has a queen bed plus a desk.

The third upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and a small corner desk.

The fourth upstairs bedroom has two twin beds.

The upstairs bathroom has an extra large shower, double vanity and skylight.

The laundry room is on the main level and has a front loading washer and dryer for your convenience.

The basement has extra high ceilings and provides an oasis of games for kids and adults, including a pool table, foosball table and XBox 360. Feel free to use the games provided during your stay and please leave them for our next guests.

End your day with a soak in the hot tub, located a few steps outside of the screened-in porch. Towels are provided. There is also an outdoor shower.

Major highlights of the property include a putting green and fire pit with Adirondack chairs.

Guests are also welcome to use the beach chairs and toys that are stacked in the basement.

The detached garage is not available to rental guests.

There is so much to do here year-round! Explore the local antique shops, botanical gardens, breweries, casinos, farmers markets, fruit orchards, amazing local restaurants, the shopping center at Lighthouse Mall, wineries, and Warren Dunes state park, just to name a few!

Please NO pets and NO smoking/vaping in the property.
In the event these house rules are broken, additional fees will be charged.

An hour and a half drive from downtown Chicago.

The perfect Family getaway

Another wonderful family experience

Great family reunion stay

We have a lovely stay over a weekend in June for a family reunion. The house is about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the public beach. Union Pier is a very quiet area but not far from New Buffalo with restaurants and a big grocery store if needed. The house had everything we needed. We loved the kitchen and the back porch and the outside dining area. Everything was in great shape. Check in was super easy. Bernadette responded promptly to any questions I asked her. We really loved the stay.

Family stay at Union Pier

Nice property, roomy, great kitchen, pool players could play pool, tv watchers could watch Olympic trials, sports, etc. We enjoyed the screened porch a lot even when it rained. Hot tubbers had good soaks. S’mores all around one evening, great restaurants and shopping in New Buffalo (10 min), plenty of easy walks to beach. Short walk to bakery and corner grocery for yummies and breakfast sandwiches. I guess that’s enough? We had a great time!

Book Club Weekend

Our book club was looking for a special place to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We wee 8 senior women. The facilities were excellent. Wonderful location. Quick walk to the lake. Hot tub and outdoor fire pit was great. All the beds were comfy and there was plenty of space for celebration. There were games, movies and pool. Already planning our return

4 day stay in July-August 2024

We really enjoyed our stay. The family room was so comfortable for a large group. Those that wanted to watch the Olympics did so. We had several that enjoyed quieter areas for reading. The walk to the beach was nice. Evenings in the hot tub and s’mores at the fire pit. Did not have to travel too far for shopping or ice cream. The kids loved the basement full of toys and games. Nice storage in kitchen. Dinings areas in several places worked well for our large group. Also enjoyed short trip to Warren Dunes State park less than15 minutes away.

Lovely Beach Vacation Home

Communication was excellent from the beginning. The home was outfitted with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing trip to a small beach town. It was extremely easy to pop down the road for food or a walk, and the local public beach access was beautifully kept and a short walk the other way. Our only complaint was cleanliness: the home did not meet our expectations for cleanliness of floors and there were a significant number of ants and spiders who found us to be a nuisance to their typical activities. This is somewhat to be expected, seasonally and in a home that isn't occupied all the time, but it did make the stay a little less enjoyable for us. Overall, it was a good place to spend a few days away from real life.

Wonderful place to stay in Union Pier! We had a group of small kids 3-8 and loved the space, the yard and hot tub are awesome! Spacious enough to fit both families and short walk to the beach, hope to be back soon!

Great location for a weekend getaway since our group had people coming from both Chicago and Detroit. House was exactly as described when booking and communication was always there if you had questions with check-in/check-out. Would highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay and Bernadette was wonderful to work with! The house was as it appears in the pictures. It is very clean and spacious. The location was great - just a short walk to the beach. We would definitely stay here again!

Gal's weekend getaway

Lovely home on a large property in a quiet neighborhood. Short walk to one of the nicer beaches in the area. The VRBO owner Bernadette was very responsive and accommodating.

Perfect location and beautiful home

My family had a wonderful stay at Bar Down. We loved the home. We also loved how close it was to the beach and to local coffee shop. Bernadette was super easy to communicate. Already planning to book here next summer.
