Head to Playa Tortugas and join the crowds who visit this beautiful, exciting spot, especially tailored for tourists to enjoy. Close to downtown Cancun, all sorts of people flock here to chase a taste of the Cancun party experience. Come and play some beach volleyball, go swimming, snorkelling, bungee jumping, pier jumping or simply sit back and enjoy a cocktail or two whilst looking out across the sea.
Smaller than other beaches in the area, you’ll still be able to find a spot to lay down your towel and you’ll be all set to while away a few hours. Deckchairs and sun loungers are provided, allowing you to relax in comfort and watch the fun unfold. Or alternatively you grab a seat in the restaurant by the sea and enjoy a bite to eat whilst soaking up the atmosphere. If you’re not looking for a substantial meal, the restaurant also servers up a range of delicious snacks, along with refreshing drinks.
The pristine waters around this beach make it a great place to go swimming, especially if you’re bringing children with you. Boats rarely come into these waters, ensuring it is kept safe and clean, and the pier is long. The shallow waters also make it ideal for divers, who can explore the Great Mesoamerican Coral Reef which stretches for hundreds of kilometres between Mexico and Honduras. Currents are often active in this area and conditions need to be checked daily, before entering the water.
For a different type of plunge, head to the Playa Tortuga bungee-jumping tower. As you prepare to launch yourself off the top of the tower, make sure you stop for a moment to take in the stunning views of the beaches and lagoon.
Situated about eight kilometres from Cancun’s downtown district, you can either get to this location by bus or taxi. If you drive, bear in mind parking is only available at a fee. It doesn’t cost you to enter the beach, and it’s always open.
