Loved our short stay at this hotel! It is very close to Ueno station which is convenient if your are taking the train directly from Narita airport. There are a lot of restaurants and bars around the area. I would definitely book here again in the future.

The place is run down and has not been upgraded in years. The AC control on the wall is a dial with L-M-H settings in this day and age. The bathroom panels had mildew spots, which I had to wipe with my antibacterial wipes, as they were revolting. The bathroom had no ventilation, and the humidity was horrible. The bathroom sink and the tub share a faucet - so if someone is taking a shower, you cannot use the sink. I would not recommend it unless you are on a tight budget. We booked it because reviews said it was excellent - but I do not agree at all.

Good Stay at Sardonyx
Great location, walkable to the train stations, and nearby to food and street shopping. Staff kept same room for most of us, and we were more familiar on 2nd stay, and able to arrange the space better. Staff are pleasant and helpful. My husband found the room( standard double bed) and toilet too small, we had difficulty storing 2pcs of luggage. Only CNN available as English Channel, would be nice if there are more options. Otherwise reception is well mannered and cleanliness is acceptable.

Great location and hotel. Amazing stays and breakfast included. Room is small but it has everything. For a solo traveller, it’s perfect! Also Loved the Panasonic blow dryer! Would definitely choose this hotel again.

I have emailed the Hoyle front desk for a room closer to elevator. Hotel replied ‘Yes’. But when I arrived they said room is not available. Ed me up I was given a room at the far end of the corridor. Disappointed.

Good location -- within walkable distance (less than 5 minutes from a major train station: JR Ueno station and two subway Tokyo Metro stations: Tokyo Metro Marunouchi line and Ginza line). But the room itself was very, very tiny. The building wouldn't turn on the heater until "it got cold outside". (Mind you, the room is already very cold to begin with... had to call the reception/front desk to turn it on...)

Information from Expedia said there is no staffed front desk as this property. NOT TRUE! Staffed by friendly efficient crew. On the other hand, there is no place to sit down in the lobby; the space is relatively small, and the popular prices make this a very busy place in the morning and evening peak periods, filled with touring families and their small children. When arriving, prepare for a friendly mob scene staffed by friendly, efficient people. Rooms are small (i.e. the bed takes up 90% of the room) but comfortable and equipped with all the necessities. there is an actual tub in the bathroom.
