The staff is great and the area has a lot of convenience. The floor I stayed the night is a bid outdated but it was an experience.

I like the public bath. It's a good start to any Japanese hotel experience. The "superior room" mattress was much better than the twin size, but still not ideal, although that is probably expected at this price point.There was a mix up in my reservation and I stayed one night in each. It took awhile to sort out, but the staff was friendly and helpful.

The only downside is the smoking area which the smokes follows the person and bring it inside the whole room. My accommodation is strictly non smoking area The massage chair, too bad placed right by the door of the smoking area..

Location was good, right next to Ueno station. Shared bathroom and toilets were always clean. Large communal area for lounging or eating. Beds very comfortable. Complimentary supply of ear buds, toothbrush and disposable razors.

This place was bad, no AC so the entire sleeping area felt like a sauna, beds were very uncomfortable. Only upside, the staff were quite friendly.

Great spot near Ueno. Keeping track of the code to unlock the door for each floor was a bit tricky. Overall, a decent choice for a hostel hotel!

The staff was very friendly but the hotel itself is a time capsule from the 80s. Everything is yellowed and aged. You keep your belongings in a rusted old locker which is to small to keep most of your belongings, so you have to hope that no one steals your stuff while you’re away. The bathroom and sink area is very outdated and unclean, with one of the stalls even having a ramen dish on top of it. Also, the there’s a sign saying “do not drink the tap water” which is a little concerning. The bedding itself was clean but the capsule was an old yellowed plastic and wasn’t comfortable. The worst part of the whole thing we’re the guests. It’s in a very drink heavy area so most people staying there are Middle Aged smokers who just got back from drinking their sorrows area at the nearest izakaya, so you’re basically falling asleep to the smell of Japanese tobacco and hella loud snoring. All in all 3/10 capsule hotel, however if you’re a middle aged office worker who hates his wife, 10/10

The best in Ueno.
It’s a near Ueno station and there are many shops and restaurants. The hostel is good condition, clean, kind Staff, and good WiFi and also there is a hot spring. It’s so good.

Super easy and simple. Staff spoke wonderful English and check in was easy. I stayed on the women’s only floor. Locker for luggage was small but the common area was clean and interesting. The shower room and showers themselves could have been cleaned better. The shower room needs a good deep cleaning. The beds were more comfortable than I anticipated. Each mattress had a mattress topper. Each unit has a curtain, outlet, tv and headphones. Good value for the price. Basic amenities are provided including pajamas. However, if you’re plus size they might not fit.

Spa is for men only. But women have good showers etc. A bit tricky to find in google. Roomy capsule. Beautiful decor. Have to walk up a flight of stairs if female. Can leave snowboard there for days after u leave for 500yen per day which was great. Will stay again.

Overall it was fine. However, compared to other capsule hotels I stayed at, it was fairly noisy. That's because there are so many foreigners staying at Ueno Station Hostel Oriental 1, who just don't know the etiquette for capsule hotels. I'm a foreigner myself, but I like the way Japanese people tend to be very quiet at capsules. My point is: why not have signs that tell people to be quiet? Why not inform guests at check-in that they should be quiet in the dorms? People book a capsule to sleep, so the hotel should ensure they're able to do so. There are common areas, where people can talk - why not direct guests towards them?

Very good location, within the happening street!
Booked a private Japanese futon room thinking it will be separated from the cabin type bed room so that it will be quieter & some privacy. However, the "room" is together with the cabin room, just that they put it at a corner of the cabin room with sliding door. There is no proper wall, just a partition (not even full height) & u can hear people walking in & out or packing their things. Good thing is that people are generally quiet. Just to note that the room door cannot be locked & u have to place your valuables in the locker. The futon bed is also not the traditional type, just a normal thin mattress. Toiletries & towels are all provided & they have face steamer, massage chair (100¥/10 mins), exercise bike & smoking room on site. Water pressure is very good & ample shower rooms & toilets available, no need to Q at all. The ladies only cabin/ private room is on L2 but the lift goes to L3 only. So u need to go down the stairs from L3 which may be an issue if u have a heavy luggage. Access to cabin room by pin code. Onsen is for men only.

Another good experience
Overall, it's my 3rd time on this hostel. It was a nice experience, it was silent and everything worked out just fine. The staff speaks English, and allow late check-in. The sauna was great too!

It was such a great area to be in 10min walk to akiba 4mins close to okachimachi station(always use the north exit ) . The only downfall for me is that i needed a fridge so on a hot summer i can drink my 100yen 2L water. Overall it was a great experience and might come back again

Best affordable place in Japan
Highly recommended! You’ll feel like you’re in a spa. Thei amenities are great and they give change of towel and pajama kimonos daily. The common bath has areas to unwind and chill. Happy haven after a long day of touring. Will surely book this hotel again!
