  • Wadi Shab is a truly magical place that is made even more amazing with a little local knowledge. To get there from Muscat, no 4WD required. Head along the road to Sur and not long after Fins Beach, take a turn off (slipway) to the right for Wadi Shab or Tiwi Village - it is signposted. Head down under the road and turn left to go underneath the highway. When you come out from under the bridge, do not turn immediately right, cross this road and turn right immediately after it. Follow this road through the village and down the steep hill to the causeway. When you cross over the causeway, turn right and park under the highway. Once you have reached here, you need to take a boat across to the other bank in order to walk up the Wadi. It costs 300 baisa (about 80 US cents). Try to have small change for this - you would be lucky if these guys carried change for a 10, let alone anything bigger. Check what time the last boat goes back - it changes with the season. Once you are across, there is a long but rewarding walk ahead. Luckily there are lots of stunning pools to take a dip in along the way. In 2012, Red Bull held the finals of the Cliff Diving Championships here. Eventually, the walk kind of stops at the water's edge. There is just a rock wall in front of you and a beach of smooth rock to enter the wadi. This is where it is time to get wet. You will need a waterproof bag if you are carrying valuables and I strongly recommend water shoes of some kind. Keep following the wadi upstream. There will be some climbing over rocks and up small gravelly waterfalls and some swimming. How much will depend on the current water level. You will reach a rock wall in front of you and the wadi just seems to appear out of it. There are now only 2 ways to go - back where you came from - or through the wall. There is a crack in the middle of the wall. Go to where this "meets" the water. If the water level is high, it will be all the way up and the only way through is to swim under rock. This is without a doubt dangerous going in blind and one of my least favourite things. I won't do this. If the water level is low enough, which it always has been for me, you can "swim" under, with enough room to get your head through, so you can both see and breathe - a much safer option. You can use your hands on the rock to propel you through. What do you do all of this for...? You are now in a cave with a waterfall. It is partially open at the top, so it is shady rather than dark and the locals have fixed a rope up through the waterfall so you can climb up and jump in. With so many other options further down river for jumping in or stopping in the shade by the water, this may seem like a lot, but it is truly beautiful. Note: Take plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, hat and energy food. It is warm even in winter - especially if you are from colder climes. But most of all - enjoy! And don't be surprised if there are some local lads around eager to show you the way!

Overall, a nice hotel on the beach. The rooms are a little old, as is the plumbing, but they make up for it in service. It’s a good solid stay for the money.

The hotel is across the road from the beach but this is not really a problem as it is not a busy road. The hotel itself it quite nice but there are a few things that require upgrades. There was a pool but it would have been more use if it had water in it! The breakfast was the worst that we had had in Oman, precooked omelette, rubbery bits of sausage, no real coffee and small paper cups. What is wrong with china cups?! They have china plates. The staff were good and friendly though, and plentiful. We were told that the hotel has recently been taken over by Nomad Inns. If so they need to do an overhaul of the facilities as all Bathrooms need a deep clean, drains need attended to as they smell bad. Sat on toilet I reached for some paper and the whole thing fell over so I was left sitting on the floor with the WC on top of me having pulled the supply pipe apart so at least the floor got a good wash down Could have been serious for another guest but as I am a 70+ plumber I found it quite funny! Overall I would give it 2 stars in its present condition but easily upgraded to 3 if the attended to the bathrooms and pool.

The staff were friendly and helpful but the hotel, although quite a nice building, needs an upgrade. Perhaps this will happen before next season as we were told that it has recently been taken over by Nomad Inns. There was no water in the swimming pool and despite being told that it would be filled the next day it never was.. The shower room smells of drains which is quite unpleasant when cleaning your teeth over a basin with smells wafting out of the plug hole. The tiles need renewed or at the very least a good clean and regrouting. The WC fell over when I was sitting on it as it was not secured to the floor having merely been glued down with silicone. This could have been serious but I have a sense of humour and we were quickly transferred to another room. The breakfast was probably the worst of our trip, rubbery “omelette”, bits of sausage on an unknown origin and Nescafe coffee. Overall only worth 2 stars but should be 3 if things are improved.

Great stay at excellent location to do wadi shab and wadi Tiwi. Spacious and clean rooms. Nice garden and pool. Only the food and laundry is extremely expensive for Omani standards.

Overpriced for what they offer. The swimming pool area is not well equipped (just 1 beach chair!) and it was full of flies and mosquitoes, they need a disinfestation. The breakfast was super poor. We had a lunch there, it was very expensive for the quality and the selection they offer. It’s close to Wadi Shab so I think the property isn’t giving any extra effort.

Vi valgte at overnatte på Tiwi Sunrise pga. beliggendeheden nær Wadi Tiwi og Wadi Shab. Stedet er bestemt ikke prangende, men det levede op til vores forventninger om et sted at overnatte til billige penge. Beliggenheden ned til vandet er fin og det var nemt at finde. Det er ærgerligt, at hotellet ikke er holdt i bedre stand. Det er slidt og giver et indtryk af manglende vedligehold - det kunne ellers være et fantastik sted. Værelserne er spartanske og giver også en slidt indtryk, men vi havde finde senge af sove i og aircondition virkede fint. Morgenmaden er bestemt ikke noget at skrive hjem om - men igen, vi forventede nu heller ikke gourmetanretning. Det er ærgerligt at stedet ikke er bedre vedligeholdt. Det kunne blive et fantiske lille hotel med lidt knofedt og vilje.

Top Lage für Ausflüge zu den Wadis, ansonsten ist in der Umgebung nichts. Der Ort Tiwi gibt nicht viel her aber es gibt einige fast food restaurants wo man einfach aber lecker essen kann.

Great Location, Clean and Spacious Room

We were pleasantly surprised by how modern and spacious our room was. Considering how remote the area was, we did not expect it. The room was very clean and tidy. There was a minor ant situation, but once food was properly stored away it did not cause too many concerns. It is in Oman, after all. The staff were exceptional. They were polite and courteous, and communicated great throughout our stay. The hotel is about a 10-minute drive to Wadi shab, which made going there back-to-back days very easy. The dinner (5.00) was a bit pricey, but there was absolutely nothing else to eat in the area, so it was fine considering.
