The 13th-century Timoleague Abbey ruins reveal their secrets best at sunset when fewer visitors explore the riverside grounds. Grab a pint at the village pub after walking the coastal path to nearby Courtmacsherry, where whale-watching boats depart seasonally.

"My daughter and grandson were trying to find a room SOMEWHERE in Ireland (near Cork but outside the city) at 11:30 p.m, I hopped onto Expedia here in the US and found this place, paid for their room, and they checked in after midnight -- exhausted. They got up this morning dazzled by the beauty of this country they love and this beautiful hotel. Thanks, Expedia, you saved the day -- and their vacation!"
