Maligne Lake is the poster pin-up of the Canadian Rockies. Measuring a staggering 22.5 kilometres long, and reaching depths of 97 metres, this is a monster of lake. But the size of Maligne Lake is outshone by its beauty. Embark on trails that wrap around the waters, go fishing in its icy-blue surface, but make sure you set aside sufficient time to make the most of everything. You can stay for days and not tire of it.

Sunwapta Falls originates from the Athabasca Glacier at Columbia Icefield. The falls were formed around 8,000 years ago by receding glacier ice. There is an upper and a lower falls, the first forming a drop of 18 metres, the second of nine metres. The bigger of the falls is the most popular and accessible, although the other is well worth seeing.

Athabasca Falls is not the largest waterfall in the Canadian Rockies. In fact, it measures just 23 metres from top to bottom. Yet it is a force of nature – a foaming cascade of water creating a deafening din to match. Come here to witness the sheer power of Mother Nature.

Medicine Lake is no ordinary body of water. Depending on when you visit, it may be swollen, or might have vanished altogether. A sense of magic and mystery inhabits this area of the Canadian Rockies. In fact, the Native Indians who once lived here thought Medicine Lake was a supernatural force, which is where its strange moniker is derived from.
