Park your car in the parking spaces of San Giovanni , and buy the ticket that will give you entrance to 3 archeological sites.. Once you've visited the ruins of Tharros , and the Aragonese tower, you still have a small way to go to fully appreciate the beauty of this fine Sinis Peninsula ..Bring some water with you, get on the small touristic train or follow by foot the easy if a little steep road to San Marco lighthouse ..this will allow you to enjoy the view of some rocky cliffs with pray birds , to smell the mediterranean shrubs , and to see some more ruins in the process of being mapped..coming back, you'll have the "Mare morto" ( dead sea, always very calm ) and some big marshes on your right, while the "Mare vivo " ( alive) and the ancient holiday village of San Giovanni are on your left. This peninsula has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and right behind the peninsula archeologists have discovered seeds of melons and grapes, 3000 years old!!
Rub off your sweat with a nice swim in the long sandy beach, and keep two hours free to visit the Cabras Museum ( no hurry, the ticket is valid for one week ) , where you'll see several unique burial objects, shipwreck findings and the famous Giant statues of Monte Prama, with the Boxeur, the Archer and other big statues being unearthed in these very weeks ..
The Sinis Peninsula Marine Protected Area offers an intense experience with nature and culture. Its territory extends from Su Siccu, the end of the protected area in the Gulf of Oristano, to the Lake of Cabras, the Promontory of Capo San Marco and San Giovanni of Sinis.
The area is also enriched by the beauty of two uncontaminated islands: the granitic Island of Mal di Ventre and the basaltic Catalano rocky islet.
Sinis is arguably one of the most fascinating and significant region in the Province of Oristano.
There are many surprises for our eyes: the basalt cliffs, the white beaches of glittering quartz, the many colours of the rocks that have been shaped by water and wind, the inland lagoons enlivened by pink flamingos, make this journey a unique setting.
