Be awed, inspired and entertained by one of the biggest and most impressive collections of butterflies in the world.
More than 10,000 butterflies are on show at the Psyche World Butterfly Park (named after the Greek word for ‘butterfly’, and the Roman name for Cupid’s wife) in a vibrant array of wings of all sorts of shades, spots and patterns. And as well as being great entertainment, the park offers lots of extra-curricular learning opportunities too, with displays detailing the origins of the world’s insects, as well as comedy bug exhibits showing preserved specimens in entertaining poses, such as playing sport.
As the main attraction here, there are more than 3,000 different types of butterfly on display. There are plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with them, and the displays of preserved specimens collected from all across the globe allow you to study their patterns in detail. If you have more of an interest in other insects and a sense of fun, head to Parody World for an unusual display of creepy crawlies. As well as insects playing sport, there are other bizarre scenarios, such as a moon landing and a trek to the North Pole, all featuring insects collected from Jeju Island.
There are plenty of butterflies in the air, as well as in the display cases, and it is quite a magical experience to walk among them. There are also a number of birds and snakes to see and learn about, providing a bit of variety for the less butterfly obsessed.
For something completely different, the butterfly park also has a fascinating jewellery collection that includes Royal British jewels and Asian antiques. There are fun family activities too – in the Crystal House mirror maze and the Ancient Castle Labyrinth obstacle course, while cute animals are just waiting to be petted at the Wild Rabbit Park.
The Psyche World Butterfly Park is open all year round and there is a small entry fee. You could easily spend a day here and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Access the park by taxi or by catching a bus from the airport.
