Our family of seven had a truly wonderful stay at The Village House in Menlough. From the moment we crossed the Failte doormat till our departure two days later, we were delighted to stay in this beautiful, clean, historic and well-appointed home. From the back of the house we watched sheep grazing and housemartins swooping over green pastures. From the front of the house we watched cows across the street and admired the Mary statue dedicated to Menlough native Fr Scully for his work benefitting Dublin's poor in the early 20th century. We were able to buy groceries at the market in Mountbellew and prepare wonderful meals in the kitchen. We also enjoyed delicious food at The Malt House in Mountbellew. Beds were very comfortable and both coffee and tea helped us wake in the morning, an assortment of tasty snacks was provided, lucky us!Our crew of adults and teens enjoyed walks behind and around The Village House and we took a day trip through the countryside to Galway. The *most* fun we had was visiting Thompson's Pub just across the street where folks were celebrating Mayo's football championship victory. We were greeted warmly by proprietor Michael and his son Stephen, owner of The Village House himself! He filled us in on the interesting history of the house and kindly entertained our many questions. The pub was lovely, everyone was very friendly, drinks were great and it was a short walk home at the evening's end. Perfect.
