For the more adventures you can hire a bike in Tavira and a short cycle along the river takes you to "Pego do Inferno" (Hell Hole! So named, as allegedly there is no bottom to the plunge pool) and despite its name, is a gorgeous waterfall and lagoon where you can swim.

During the summer there is a diary of free events in and around the city from book fairs and antique markets to music and films shown in the open air. In the winter there is classical music in the
churches where the doors are open for visitors and residents alike. Christmas sees the city festooned in twinkling lights and New Year is enjoyed with a firework display over the river. Tavira has a temperate climate so sitting with a "galão" (milky coffee) in the sunshine can be enjoyed any time of the year.

For golf lovers there is a plethora of golf courses to choose from, e.g. Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima and Castro Marim or the new Monte Rei Course is a first class addition for the Eastern Algarve.
