Casita Pequena Efficiency Apartment
This downtown efficiency apartment is across the street from the Taos Plaza. It is on the "Garden Street" of Taos on a little one block street with shops, restaurants and four of my Vacation Rental apartments. The Town Parking Lot across the street after years of free parking has begun to charge an hourly parking fee. I now suggest guests use Church Parking Lot on the corner for only $5 per day. Town Lot across the street is always free after 6 and on Sunday. The kitchen area includes a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker and toaster as well as dishes and glassware for two. The Reading Nook has a comfortable chair, reading light and a variety of Vacation Books. The dining area is an antique table with two chairs complete with placemats and cloth napkins. Opaque blinds offer privacy yet allow our wonderful Taos light to come in. The main room has a ceiling fan, operable transom window and a dutch door for summer use. In winter months there is a gas log stove and even a heated electric mattress pad. Please operate gas log stove ONLY with wall thermostat. NEVER turn off main gas line. The hallway has hooks for hanging clothing with two guest robes provided. There is a dresser for clothes at the foot of the bed. I love the bathroom! It has a tiled shower with random tiles and is bright and colorful. I provide thick towels, soaps, shampoo, hair dryer and other miscellaneous bath supplies. There is a ceiling fan for ventilation and a small space heater. This apartment as well as all the buildings on the street was built in the 1880's so thick walls keep it cool in summer and easy to keep warm in the winter. 14" thick walls will do that. Also it ensures quiet even though right downtown. I operated this space as a small retail shop until I realized my true passion was Vacation Rentals. I love to remodel, furnish and decorate for my many guests. I now have 11 Taos Rentals. Everything from this efficiency to one bedroom apartments and houses as well as two and three bedroom homes. As with all of my rentals I am dog friendly and provide dog sheets to cover bed. I charge a per night per dog which you may add when booking. I offer a 50% discount for bookings over 30 days. I provide wireless high speed internet with the user name and password posted by the dining table. All of this at a great location, reasonable rates, amenities galore and shopping in your own private space! Come visit and enjoy Casita Pequena for a short stay.

Unique efficiency in an ideal location. My husband and I loved it here. We had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding very nice. Cute decor everywhere you looked. We used the fan on the AC to block out outside noise. The location is fantastic as everything was within close proximity. Social House with live music right next door with great drink options and many restaurants a few min away. Loved Taos!!
This is a very comfortable little apartment in the middle of everything. It’s almost hidden it’s so in the middle. Easy to get to restaurants and historic downtown. Melissa responded to my questions immediately. We had an amazing meal at Stella’s and yummy breakfast at the Bread Club Taos. I recommend both if you are gluten free.
We loved the casita. It has a ton of character. It’s clean with a comfortable bed. One block from the main square. Next door to a cocktail bar and a restaurant. Only 30 min to the ski resort.
We enjoyed this cozy space within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of the Taos Plaza. The road noise was a bit loud due to road construction in the area.Perfect location. Just park your car and walk.
Have stayed at several of Melissa properties.
Love them all.
Would recommend any of Melissa properties.
All have a charming Taos feel.
Great communication. Great Location.
Adorable, spacious, art on the walls for sale. Host was prompt, friendly, and incredibly accommodating. I was traveling for an art event and stayed a couple extra days for fun. Efficiency is within walking distance of galleries, stores, restaurants, and a food store. This place is a gem.
Casita Pequeña was so cozy, cute, clean and quaint! The location is excellent, only a few doors away from an outstanding restaurant and fine boutiques and shops. Melissa has items on display for sale within the Casita and I had a blast shopping. We will definitely go back, Melissa is a great host and so easy to communicate with. 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for Melissa and Casita Pequeña.
The place was darling. The air conditioner kept it very comfortable. The only issue with it had nothing to do with the place or the owner. The main street is torn up and the detour goes right past the place. During the week there wasn’t very much traffic noise, but Friday and Saturday nights was a little noisy. I’m sure when construction is over it will be nice and peaceful all week long.

Funky and small, as advertised. Close to everything and a decent price for the location. There was a fair bit of dust in the corners and on some of the things displayed for sale. A bit odd that the only sink for the “kitchenette” is in the bathroom, and is small for washing dishes. Old and creaky floors, and the front door doesn’t close very securely. But overall a good choice if you want to be close to the old town centre and are on a budget.

Liked: Cleanliness
We liked the location and was within walking distance to shopping and dining. It was older adobe structure which we liked. What we didn’t like was marginally safe electric outlets and main door locks. The outlets were poorly maintained and hung loose. The door locks need to be updated and strengthened. Another item that needs to be addressed is that the property was advertised as an efficiency there was no sink in the “kitchen” area. We had to haul water from the bathroom to wash dishes and waste water carried back to the bathroom. With a few noted exceptions our stay was nice and comfortable.

Location good (near plaza). Quirky charm, a bit overdone (to lure buyers). Dos & don’ts notes scattered around (e.g. “don’t adjust blinds” - the sun shines directly into room 8:00am.
1. “Free parking” misleading, notified the day before that city of Taos now honors parking meters; the church across the street offered $5 parking. Upon arrival, met another woman (Joy) who claimed to know nothing about town rules. I showed town map of pay/free parking areas. I think she just wanted to play the “not my problem, not responsible” game. I called Melissa and explained deciding to park in free library/town hall lot. She said she didn’t mention it since few blocks away.
2. Cleanliness subjective. My wife super sensitive to dust; called Melissa to request bedding change & tidying. She agreed. Upon returning, although some improvement, my wife not entirely happy did some mopping herself. The housekeeper came with fresh pillow cases and was confronted by my wife expressing her concerns. The housekeeper said if we didn’t like it we could go somewhere else.
3. Hospitality lacking. Unlike other 2 VRBO accommodations, check-out time is 10:00am. This slipped us up, still packing when the cleaning girl walked in on me undressed. She apologized and left, soon followed by a loud knock on the door by Joy. She irritatedly advised that “check-out time is 10:00. I need you out of here.”
4. Wifi minor configuration issue, email iMap server port blocked. Turn off Wifi to receive email.
This is our third time to stay at one of Melissa‘s properties in the past two months. We enjoy how close it is to the plaza. Her properties are super cute!
This quaint abode is so cozy and comfortable!! Perfect for one person!!! It has such personality! The location is perfect! Walking distance to the Plaza and so much more. I will definitely be back to this location or one of Melissa’s other VRBOs. This is the second location I have stayed in that Melissa owns.
