Close to it all

Hotel Mar Ray was a neat little hotel with a great pool area and decent sized rooms very close to beach and all bars, restaurants and mini supermarkets. Enjoyed our stay although it is getting a little dated which we weren’t concerned about.

The service and staff were very nice and helpful for suggestions and booking cars/outings. The hotel was cute and across street from beach access. The downside for our family was the noise/sound from the local clubs - it was very loud until late on weekends but a bit better on weekdays.

Hotel Mar Rey is in a great location. Close to beach, restaurants and bars and shopping. The pool and surroundings are beautiful. Hacienda style. The ranch kitchen by the pool was great. You could buy groceries and cook them on site. Andrey and staff were extremely helpful.

Unforgettable time :) The owners and staff are so welcoming, helpful and charming....you feel right at home before you even arrive on site because they ensure that your entire journey goes splendidly well. We stayed for seven days at this lovely hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful in booking transport to and from airport and our sunset cruise. We had a king bed that was comfortable. The hotel is right in the center of the action and across the street from the beach. The pool area was very cute, and the water was refreshing from the sun. It can get very noisy at night but a couple of more of margaritas helped to drown out the noise. Overall would recommend staying here.

This is a perfectly placed property right at the heart of all the action. Great access to the beach and restaurants as well as nightlife. Staff was great. Wished the room was bigger and had facecloths.

Great location for access to the beach, dining, shops, banks, tour operators, and all the action. I also loved the large balcony with view of the pool, private courtyard like setting, and outdoor kitchen. the rooms are simple and have all the basics plus small fridge and small microwave. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Note: The downtown area of Tamarindo is concentrated around one main road and a couple side streets. The entire area can be a bit noisy in the evening until midnight due to the music at open bars, motorcycles, and other motorists. Only the outskirts of the town seemed to be protected from this. It’s quite lively! For in-town options this hotel seemed to be one of the best.

Easy fixed needed

Great location has the potential to be fantastic but fell short in many areas. The hotel has no ice. Really? Coffee maker on top of the microwave, no coffee, filters, cups or condiments. Sign over the coffee maker says Microwave is only to be used to reheat coffee and if it used for food that you will be charged $50!! Really? Towel are thin and horrible.

We stayed here our last night in Costa Rica for proximity to the airport. Wifi was spotty and kept kicking us off, in the rooms you could hear all the outside noises, but the worst issue was the power kept shutting off in the whole hotel. While we were at dinner it shut down 4-5 times. Then when we got back to our room it was constantly flickering on and off, sometimes lasting as long as 2-3min. No power means no AC. We would lose the AC every time the power shut down so it took quite a while for the room to actually cool down. Pools looked nice.

Das Zimmer ist sehr geräumig und toll ist der Balkon. Dieser ist kaum einsehbar und bietet damit gute Privatsphäre. Die Anlage an sich ist sehr sauber und Sicherheit wird groß geschrieben. Die Mitarbeitenden sind super freundlich und haben alles im Blick. Alles macht einen sehr schönen gemütlichen Eindruck, vom Pool über den BBQ Bereich bis hin zu den Pflanzen. Alles sehr schön und super zentral gelegen. Ich versteh die teilweisen kritischen Bemerkungen wegen der Lautstärke nicht. Wer zentral wohnen will, wird keine stille Oase bekommen. Das istbuberal auf der Welt so!

I loved the location of Hotel Mar Rey. It was close to everything. The estuary was a 15 minute walk and that was the furthest thing from me. The pool is clean, the shared outdoor kitchen is great, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel is older but they do a great job keeping it up. I would stay here again!
