Sunset Park Hotels, Tampa

"Another overpriced Florida ripoff in a region that is similar to the Jersey Shore and not an upscale destination. Add the per night occupancy taxes aimed at sticking it to the tourists who do not vote in the state and it became a very expensive stay for what felt like a semi-maintained establishment. Property is old and in need of an upgrade. For example, door of the room was hard to open, as was the front entrance which is difficult to go through when trying to carry luggage. The layout of the hotel is a little convoluted, and the elevators are rundown (they tend to close quickly, too). The small pool was okay and the Rum Runner restaurant is average and currently noisy due to construction of new restaurant and pool, which was not mentioned in advance when booking was done. It’s the only option for breakfast and the service was slow. The room itself wasn’t bad and a good size. But there was no luggage rack for suitcases and the safe deposit box is down near the floor with shelves above, which makes it difficult for those who are older and struggle more to bend over. There was no room service during our two night stay. This property is geared toward families and teenagers, so it’s a little noisy at times but quiet when time to sleep. My biggest objection was a 5 star price for a 3 star hotel. I have been in many different hotels of different levels of quality in many different locations and this was below average when comparing the quality versus the price. "

"We always enjoy our stay however this time we had a painter come to our room from the balcony while I was alone with our girls and ask if they could paint our balcony. That startled us a bit. Not sure if these things could be clarified with front desk to be alerted ahead of time? Other than that we always wish the firepit stayed on longer than 10pm especially if guests are quietly enjoying it. "

"This is our second visit to the Barrymore. We love the location to everything in the Tampa area. The shuttle make everything much easier to get around. Rooms are quiet and comfortable. "

"Cockroaches in our room, two of our four nights our room didnt get cleaned. Coffee pot did not work"

"From the moment we arrived we were treated well . Employees know how to take care of customer needs. My wife and I had a beautiful room with a great view. The room was continually cleaned and refreshed. The pool is beautiful and the restaurant delightful . We will definitely be back. Thank you Opal Sands management and staff! "

"Very disappointing stay. The hotel was not clean including the lobby, room and balcony. Also, staff are not friendly, parking is valet-only at $40/day which you’d need to pay if you have a car despite being perfectly capable of parking your own car, and they charged a $35/day resort fee despite offering no real amenities. On top of that, we paid a $460 deposit at check-in. Overall definitely not worth it."
