Sudirman Central Business District may be ripe with opportunities for businesses, but it also has a number of attractions for the visitor to Jakarta. This commercial and business hub encompasses homes, hotels, offices, skyscrapers and shopping malls, covering an area of 111 acres (45 hectares).

Explore the district, taking in the key sites of interest. Look up at the colossal Treasury Tower. At approximately 918 feet (280 metres), this is one of the tallest buildings in Indonesia. See the Indonesia Stock Exchange, which is located in a gleaming twin-towered skyscraper. Shop for designer goods in the stores and boutiques of Pacific Place, a luxurious shopping mall. If you need a new computer, camera or other electronic devices head over to the Electronic City shopping complex.

As you walk around you will notice some plots have yet to be filled and building work is ongoing. The Jakarta Signature Tower is scheduled for completion in 2022, and when it is finished, the 2,100-foot (635-metre) tower will be the tallest in Indonesia. It is slated to house a luxury hotel, shopping mall and observatory.

Sudirman Central Business District is located in South Jakarta, approximately 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometres) southeast of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, which is used for soccer matches, athletics and concerts. Access is via seven entry and exit points that connect to the city's main avenues.

Get around the district on foot, by taxi or the shuttle buses that operate at 8-minute intervals during business hours. Another option is to use the underground pedestrian walkways that link many of the commercial buildings.

After spending time in the Sudirman Central Business District, visit the wealth of nearby attractions. Among them are the Adam Malik Museum, which is dedicated to a former Indonesian vice president and the Sasmita Loka Museum. In this building is a plaque marking the spot where General Ahmad Yani was killed during a failed coup d’état in the 1960s.
