About this property

White Mountains Forest A-Frame | Stars + Firepit

  • Summary:

This off-grid A-frame is for people who want their getaway to feel a little bit legendary but still want a luxury queen bed at the end of the trail.

Tucked into 56 acres in the White Mountain National Forest & Maine Lakes region, it’s rustic glamping, not a full cabin: no plumbing, heat, Wi-Fi, or cell service, but you’ve got solar lighting, 12V power, a firepit, propane grill, & private outhouse. Think fireflies, owls, & cuddling by the fire. Strong “roughing it done right” energy!

    The Space:

    The Space

The Birch is for guests who like the idea of camping, but would prefer to skip the tent poles, the lumpy ground, and the mysterious 2 a.m. air mattress sigh. Inside, you’ll have a luxury queen bed, bedding, solar lighting, and a simple place to sleep after a day outdoors. Outside, you’ll have a private firepit, propane grill, private outhouse, and a tucked-away wooded setting.

    Why Guests Love It

    • Hike-in A-frame for two

    • Luxury queen bed with bedding provided

    • Private firepit for stargazing and firelit evenings

    • Solar lighting and limited 12V solar power

    • Propane grill for easy outdoor meals

    • Private outhouse - rustic, clean, and not shared

    • Access to disc golf, hiking trails, and the adventure trail to our 5-story Summit Tower with 360-degree views

    • Strong “roughing it done right” energy

The Birch is especially well-suited for couples, solo travelers, and outdoorsy guests who want a rustic-romantic stay. Think fireflies through the window, owls from the porch, coffee outside, a round of disc golf, and a firepit dinner after a day of exploring.

This is not polished luxury. It is more honest than that. It is the kind of simple that starts to feel surprisingly luxurious once your nervous system realizes nobody can reach you.

    Guest Access:

    Hike-In Access

While UTV service is provided for luggage and camping gear, the Birch is a hike-in unit, and that is part of the adventure!

You’ll follow a natural wooded path to reach the A-frame. It is not a flat roll-your-suitcase sidewalk, so sturdy shoes are strongly recommended. We can help transport your belongings by utility vehicle during check-in, so the walk in feels like the beginning of the retreat rather than a luggage-hauling workout.

The walk is part of what gives Birch its tucked-away feeling. The bed at the end helps.

    The Neighborhood:

In The Trees is set in Stoneham, Maine, in the White Mountain National Forest & Maine Lakes region. The property gives you built-in adventure, while nearby lakes, mountains, and trails make it easy to shape each day around the season.

    Lakes, Trails & Nearby Adventure

Tucked into a beautiful pocket of Western Maine, our property is surrounded by forest, lakes, trails, ski areas, and small-town adventure.

    Nearby favorites include:

    • Virginia Lake — sandy beach, swimming, and fishing

    • Keewaydin Lake — just past the property on Route 5

    • Kezar Lake — about ten minutes away, with summer boat and kayak rentals

    • Kezar Falls — about eight miles away

    • White Mountain National Forest — bordering the property

    • Pleasant Mountain — about 24 minutes away

    • Sunday River — about 31 minutes away

    • Mt. Abram — about 34 minutes away

    • Roger Twitchell Observatory in Norway, Maine — about 22 minutes away, with public viewing nights

    Summer

Summer at The Birch is for fireflies, stargazing, grill dinners, disc golf, nearby lake days, and slow mornings in the woods. This is the season when Birch feels especially alive - green, warm, simple, and wonderfully far from normal routines.

    Fall

Fall gives Birch its most romantic personality. The leaves shift into gold and red, the air gets crisp, and the firepit becomes the obvious place to end the day. There is no heat, so fall guests should pack warm layers, cozy socks, and extra “I knew what I signed up for” energy.

    May

May is green and rustic. Trails may be soft or muddy depending on weather. Bring practical shoes and a sense of adventure. The forest will bring the drama.
