About this property

Sommerhus @ Skyline Drive | Modern Scandi Cabin on 6 Acres | 2BR, Sleeps 4

  • Summary:

Welcome to Sommerhus @ Skyline Drive, a Nordic-inspired retreat just 2 hours from Washington, D.C. Set on 6 private acres near historic Washington, VA—home to the Michelin-starred Inn at Little Washington—and Sperryville, home to acclaimed Three Blacksmiths, this modern sanctuary is just 8 minutes from Shenandoah National Park. Clean architectural lines, thoughtful Danish design, and peaceful forest surroundings create an inviting escape for nature, food, and wine lovers alike.

    The space

Designed with simplicity, warmth, and calm in mind, this modern mountain home is a true sommerhus—a traditional Nordic holiday home deeply rooted in the Danish concept of hygge. Rather than a manicured lawn, the cabin sits on a 6-acre natural plot (naturgrund), intentionally left wild to encourage a deep connection with the peaceful forest surroundings. It offers a refined, minimalist alternative to the traditional cabin stay.

    ⸻ Gather ⸻

The heart of the home is a bright, open living, dining, and kitchen area designed for easy time together. Large windows bring the surrounding trees into view, while warm wood floors, soft natural tones, and thoughtful, highly functional modern finishes create a calm and inviting space.

The living area includes comfortable seating, a smart TV, and a wood-burning stove for cozy evenings in. The dining area sits near the windows, making it a peaceful spot for morning coffee, shared meals, or a glass of wine after a day exploring Shenandoah.

The kitchen is sleek, modern, and fully equipped, with a large island, stainless steel appliances, generous counter space, and the essentials needed for cooking during your stay. Whether you’re making a full dinner, packing lunches for a hike, or keeping things simple with coffee and breakfast, the kitchen is set up to make the stay easy.

For guests mixing a little work with their time away, the home also includes a dedicated workspace with a desk, computer chair, and nearby power outlet—a convenient setup for checking email, taking a call, or settling in with a laptop.

    ⸻ Rest ⸻

Sommerhus @ Skyline Drive includes two primary suites designed with a calm, minimalist feel. Each room keeps the design simple and uncluttered, with soft bedding, warm wood tones, and thoughtful details that make the home feel peaceful without feeling sparse. The first bedroom offers a king bed and attached full bathroom, while the second bedroom offers a queen bed and attached full bathroom.

The layout works well for families, couples, or a small group of friends traveling together. With an additional half bathroom, guests have plenty of space to get ready after a day in the park or wind down before a quiet evening at home.

    ⸻ Unwind ⸻

Step outside to enjoy the home’s spacious deck, surrounded by six acres of quiet woods and fresh mountain air. Following the Danish sommerhus tradition, the outdoor space is designed for slowing down and respecting the natural landscape. Enjoy your morning coffee, share an outdoor meal, or gather around the fire pit under the stars.

Inside, our energy-efficient wood-burning stove serves as a direct, sustainable heat source, adding warmth and atmosphere during cooler months while creating a cozy central “hygge” point without taking away from the home’s clean, modern feel.

    ⸻ Explore ⸻

Sommerhus @ Skyline Drive is located near Sperryville along the route toward Shenandoah National Park, making it an ideal base for guests who want easy access to Skyline Drive and the Thornton Gap entrance—just 8 minutes away.

Spend your days hiking in the park, driving Skyline Drive, visiting scenic overlooks, exploring local wineries and breweries, or enjoying Sperryville’s restaurants, shops, galleries, and small-town charm—all within an easy 10-to-15-minute drive from the property. The location gives you quick access to the park while still keeping you close to the food, drink, and local character that make the area special.

    ⸻ Sustainability ⸻

We built this space with a deep commitment to preserving the beauty of the Virginia landscape that surrounds it. Sommerhus is thoughtfully curated for low-impact, modern living. A clean rooftop solar array harnesses local sunlight to help power your stay. If you love traveling green, running high-energy appliances such as the washer and dryer during peak daylight hours is a great way to maximize your use of direct, real-time solar energy.

Arrive with peace of mind knowing we provide a dedicated Level 2 EV charger for your vehicle. Enjoy crisp, pure water drawn straight from our deep-rock well—no single-use plastic bottles needed here.

Finally, the grounds blend seamlessly into the mountain ecosystem, featuring a mix of wild landscape and thoughtfully planted native Virginia perennials that support local pollinators.

We had a great staying as a party of 4 adults and 1 baby in this cabin at the beginning of October. The cabin is ideally placed to visit Shenandoah National Park. We particularly enjoyed the fireplace and the deck, including the grill. The furnishing is tasteful and pleasant. The kitchen is fully furnished with utensils and appliances, which we particularly enjoyed. Overall, we had an excellent experience and we would come back,
