Blue Ridge Mountain 'Solitude' on The Little River

This Appalacian Log Cabin 'Solitude' is an especially cool place to just 'BE'! It's Rustic, Charming, Romantic and quite Rejuvenating while located on The Little River & creekside waters. Soothing sounds of nature are all surrounding while you breathe calming Fresh Air. Beautiful logs & chinking INTERIOR is so much more welcoming & special compared to other rentals. The Rock Patio with fireplace is a grounding place to gather alone with a book or connect with each other. The (2) white rockers & table on the front porch are great for your breakfast with your morning coffee or 5 o-clock cocktail viewing a focal point of the babbling creek and rhododendrons.

Spend a few days in this unique spirit lifting space to take the weight of the world off your shoulders.

FROM INDOORS - The living room has The Little River right out the windows and is such a delight. Watch your loved ones playing in the river without stepping foot outside. Watch a Roku movie or listen to BLUEGRASS or the BLUES for something different. Read, write or journal a few pages. Draw or Paint. Rig up your fishing pole at a leisurely pace.

PROVIDED - Gather together for meal prep time in the charming open kitchen. Cabin Solitude provides all soaps, paper products, salt & pepper, K-Cup coffee, Mr Coffee filters, (but bring your own ground coffee for the Mr Coffee) or attempt to make the most tasteful coffee the old fashioned way in the stove tope TIN PERCOLATOR. Grill perfect steaks on the outdoor grill located on the rock porch. (sorry, No garbage disposal or dishwasher, thus no irritating sounds competing with 'Solitude'.) Linens & towels, Wi-Fi, Smart TV and roasting sticks for the fireplace.

SLEEP - Sleep deeply in the comfortable QUEEN Bed or up the timbered staircase to find the loft area with (2) lovely TWIN beds.

BATHROOMS - Choose to soak your troubles away in the antique claw tub (soaking salts are provided) or clean up in the upstairs shower. BE AMUSED while you wash your hands and brush your teeth in these most unique sinks!

OUTDOORS ON THE PROPERTY - Spend a special day exploring The Little River (the largest tributary to the NEW RIVER). You can jump and play in it. You can paint it, write it, photograph it or simply cast for Brown, Brook & Rainbow Trout or Black Bass. There are Sculpin and also the Kanawha and Sharpnose Darters! You'll be amazed at Mother Nature's Appalachian habitats, animals and a huge variety of plant life by taking a WALK IN the river or up the hillside road. You may catch a view of white tailed deer, turkey, blue river heron, red tailed hawks, red squirrel, coyote, the downstream beaver, fox and even a local cow.

Bring your old shoes to do the childhood adventure of "River & Creek Walk'. Flip flat rocks and be pleasantly surprised at salamanders or crawfish! Be so still to watch white tail deer drinking from the delicate flowing waters.

Kick back later in the Soaring Rock Fireplace porch for your evening fire. Make S'mores or simply play cards then cuddle up together while watching the flickering flames.

This is a "best & easy GETAWAY" for people from Charlotte and Greensboro to quickly drive the scenic 1 & 1/2 hours.

It is 45 minutes WEST driving US - 21 from I-77. 7 miles west of the Blue Ridge Parkway (MP 229) & 7 miles east of Sparta.

Biking or Running is amazing on The Blue Ridge Parkway. Drive or hike the beautiful Doughton State Park (MP 240) to find the Brinegar Cabin and the Basin Creek Trail to the Historic Caudill Cabin. Drive down the mountain to Stone Mountain State Park for fishing, hiking and touring the Historic Hutchinson Homestead. There are plenty of public golf courses for the golf addict. In December, Cut your Christmas Tree & Photograph Cow Country, Attend Downtown Live Bluegrass & Clogging, visit & leisure the Coffee Shops & Art & Craft Galleries. Attend an Indoor workout at The Alleghany Wellness Center & Pool. There are plenty of local events taking place throughout the year in and around town. You have multiple countryside wineries for Wine Tasting enthusiasts. Your best bet is to Simply REST, BREATHE & RELAX near the river, the pines and rhododendrons while enjoying the sounds of 'Solitude'.

Serene location
I was so pleased with the cabin by the river! The doe and fawn greeted us daily, because after all, it is their property. Thanks Joann for sharing this amazing property

Girls getaway
We live about and hour from Sparta. This was a weekend getaway for us moms. It was so relaxing, especially the sound of the River and then the fireplace at night. Can’t wait to visit again.

Very nice. Tastefully decorated. Nicely equipped. Could use a bit more interior lighting. Recommend for small family or couple.

Seclusion
We were looking for a place off the beaten path to stay while traveling further south. Tucked away in the mountains is this little gem. Great for the fisherman or those really looking to get away. You won’t see people unless you want to. The house was well stocked with all we needed (other than food and drink). We did leave some firewood, though, you should bring your own. We had to scavenge/go buy some. The kids enjoyed sleeping in the loft area. The full bath upstairs is a huge plus. The only negative, is the queen bed was not good for two. Sleeping on the one side left you rolling to the center. Thankfully, the couch was also comfortable for sleeping! Great hiking trails close by, and Sparta is not a far drive at all for some good food and drinks. Saw several deer on the drive in, and a few turkeys.

We've been coming here for three years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed each stay. There are so many outdoor activities to do, or you can just relax on the porch and take in the scenery. Highly recommend for an incredible getaway!

Charming and Classy
The instant we walked through the door we were smitten with this home! It smelled fresh and woodsy. The space felt very bright, warm and welcoming; even nicer than expected. There was a beautiful view from every window. Being beside the river was a delight. It was interesting to watch the river change after a day of heavy rain. The river turned milky brown, flowed more swiftly as the water level rose, then slowly calmed as the skies cleared. Great place to tune into nature, and we also enjoyed watching the deer and many turkeys walking through the yard. Loved the bathroom sinks and that beautiful kitchen sink! Was very nice to have two bathrooms. The outdoor fireplace was sensational and made this place extra special. It's lovingly decorated and thoughtfully appointed. Thanks for a wonderful anniversary getaway! We hope to return sometime.

Solitude delivered
My husband and I chose the Solitude cabin because it looked beautiful and secluded. We couldn't have been more happy with our choice. We stayed three nights and found everything we would need provided as if the owner has really thought out what guests would require for an enjoyable stay. It poured all day one of the days we were there but still enjoyed ourselves drinking coffee with a roaring fire on the porch overlooking the river. There were no neighbors within sight, and there were several restaurants within a close drive. The cabin is a little dark on the inside (low lighting) but our eyes adjusted and it added to the warm and comfortable feeling along with the impressive cast iron propane fire and abundance of candles. So many of the cabins I see are decorated with an overdone country/bear theme while Joann's simple early Americana decor was spot on. Joann was very responsive as a host and we are so grateful she shared her beautiful home with us!
