With new COVID-19 rules and measures to adhere to, travel looks a lot different these days. Here's what you should know before you get on that plane to Southern Madrid:

• Look into the rules and restrictions in both your destination and origin. It may not be possible to travel depending on local circumstances, so don't forget to check before you book your flight.
• Requirements state you must wear a face mask at the airport, even at screening checkpoints. Be ready to adjust your mask to verify your identity when asked by a TSA employee.
• To minimize the risk of cross-contamination, place your boarding pass on the scanner yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your boarding pass directly to a TSA officer.
• You can take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your carry-on baggage. You'll have to remove it for X-ray scanning.
• To minimize handling during the screening process, put items such as your wallet, phone and belt into your carry-on rather than into the bins.
• Transport any food items in a clear plastic bag and also place them in a screening bin. Keeping food separate from your carry-on means it's less likely a TSA employee will need to open and touch your bag for inspection.
