"Good hotel in a lovely location up a hill through olive groves. Great terrace outside the bar with a view of the hills. Good restaurant with a decent choice of meals and wines. The only downside is that while the staff were able to supply a password for the bar wi-fi, they didn't seem to know the password for the wi-fi networks covering the accommodation buildings (and my Spanish wasn't good enough to enquire further)."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Solera?
The best area to stay in Solera is the historic town centre, particularly around the Plaza Mayor and the streets radiating from it.

This area is the heart of Solera, characterised by its traditional Andalusian architecture, narrow cobbled streets, and whitewashed buildings. The Plaza Mayor is a central meeting point, often bustling with activity, and features several cafés and restaurants with outdoor seating. Many of Solera's historic landmarks, such as the Church of Santa María and the Alcázar, are within easy walking distance.

For couples, staying within the historic town centre offers a romantic and convenient experience. You'll be steps away from intimate tapas bars, artisan shops, and the beautiful evening strolls along ancient pathways. The proximity to cultural sites means you can explore at a relaxed pace, perhaps enjoying a leisurely lunch at a local eatery before visiting a monument.

Families will also find the historic centre a good option due to its central location and pedestrian-friendly zones. Children can enjoy the open space of the Plaza Mayor, and many accommodations here offer easy access to local parks and family-friendly restaurants.
When is the best time to go to Solera?
The best time to visit Solera, Andalusia, Spain, is during the spring (late April to early June) or autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasantly warm and the crowds are smaller.

Spring in Solera is particularly lovely. The countryside is green and lush, and the orange blossoms fill the air with a sweet scent. The temperatures are comfortable for exploring the city's historic sites and enjoying outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer. This period is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway or solo travellers wanting to explore the region's natural beauty.

Autumn offers similar comfortable temperatures, making it superb for sightseeing and enjoying the local culture. The summer heat has subsided, and the grape harvest season brings a special vibrancy to the region, with local festivals and wine-related events. This is a great time for food and wine enthusiasts to experience Solera's culinary traditions.

While the summer months (July and August) are popular, they can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F). If you plan to visit then, be prepared for the heat and consider booking accommodation with air conditioning and a pool.
