"Overall we enjoyed our stay. The place is very small however so we would have enjoyed more space. The place had food in the fridge when we got there (from the previous tenants), the shower soap dispenser was broken and we had to buy toilet paper."

"We arrived after 22:00 so used the self check in which worked fine. The room was basic, but a bit warm. The bathroom had no place to store toiletries, it was large enough so maybe a table could be added. The breakfast was typical, and I enjoyed the fresh grainy bread. The two pillows were lovely, so thank you for that nice touch."

Guesthouse Vellir

Guesthouse Vellir

10/10 Excellent
"I would like to comment on a review sent by Michele for her stay on August 5. I was a guest here at this wonderful guest house at the same time as her and her abusive husband. I was walking by the lobby and heard her rather large husband absolutely screaming and these 2 young women. He was upset about breakfast from what I understand and even though I saw them in the dining room eating breakfast with no issues but as soon as they ate everything they wanted they apparently were not satisfied and wanted a refund. They should have said something before they finished their whole breakfast if they were not satisfied. I’m not sure where they are from but everything is expensive in Iceland and if they could not afford it then maybe going to a cheaper country would be better for them. But her husband was clearly trying to intimidate these nice young ladies who did give him a refund. Luckily I was the only guest still to not check out yet and had to intervene as he was getting very aggressive and I could see these poor women who are in a very remote location were getting very scared. The woman at the desk even offered to call the tour guide as they were friends with the guide. If I were the guide I would cancel their appointment as there are long waiting lists for these tours I wouldn’t want this bully anywhere near my tour. He said he was going to ruin their business by leaving bad reviews so I just wanted to say this place is amazing and please check it out"

"The breakfast was a mix of food unique to Iceland and also common enough for the picky eater. We loved it! The vibe was so different from American hotels which was also why we loved it so much. This was the classic cozy, peaceful experience we needed :)) I recommend this place! "

Skogar Hostel

Skogar Hostel

8/10 Good
"Pros: This hostel is clean. Towels were provided. The shower stalls are very private with no gaps in the doors. They provide a nice coffee machine in the kitchen. The location in between two beautiful waterfalls is very convenient. You can easily walk to both. Cons: One of the toilets had a broken flusher. You can make it work but it's a little tricky to figure out at first. That's a really basic repair that should be dealt with right away. You can hear a lot from the rooms beside you, if someone sneezes across the hall you hear it clearly. The two fridges get crowded because they are on the small side (bring your own napkins/paper towels). The parking lot had some refuse including a rusty nail which we nearly parked on top of, it could use maintenance. Overall, this hostel was comfortable and conveniently located. However, the value does not match the price. As with everything in Iceland, it was expensive to stay here. The reason that matters in this case is that there were other places we stayed on our trip that were a similar. cost but had more privacy and amenities."
