Fun for all the family at this theme park, home to the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Texas.

Six Flags over Texas has been entertaining visitors for 50 years. The park’s name comes from the six nations that have ruled over the Dallas area: France, Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America and the United States of America, each of which is covered in a specially themed zone. Travel around the world in just a few short steps – enjoy food and entertainment from Mexico and Spain in their respective sections, check out the style and charm of the Old South, or jump on the rides in Looney Tunes USA.

There are dozens of rides on offer at Six Flags over Texas, and these are all handily given a “thrill” rating, so you know what to expect. Attractions are available just for kids, for kids accompanied by an adult (height restrictions may apply) and for adults only, so there’s something for everyone at this park!

For extreme adrenaline seekers, head to the Titan – the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Texas, reaching top speeds of 136 kilometres per hour, or spin around on Pandemonium. A slower pace of life can be found at the Chaparral Antique Cars, where children can play driver. And take the opportunity to cool off from the hot Texas sun at one of the many water rides on offer, like the Roaring Rapids or AQUAMAN Splashdown.

There’s more than just rides on show here – kids can meet some of their heroes, like Batman and the Justice League in Gotham City or the Looney Tunes in USA. When hunger strikes, there are plenty of options available – take your pick from the various national cuisines on offer, get a traditional American diner meal at Johnny Rockets in Goodtimes Square, or pick up an ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

Six Flags over Texas is open from March to early January – the peak season is June to August. Check the website for daily opening hours. It’s cheaper to buy tickets online and you’ll avoid the queues. The park is in Arlington, 30 kilometres outside of central Dallas and paid parking is available. If your hotel participates in the Arlington Trolley service, you can get free transport to and from the park and other attractions.
