The reception team were good but the room had not been cleaned properly. We found old socks, a tooth plaque removal device and the tea and coffee facilities had not been renewed.

While the staff, food, and the facilities were good, the sleeping experience left much to be desired and did not live up to expectations. Arguably the most important aspect of any stay. The mattress was very hard, and lumpy, springs were loud when rolling over. Did not sleep the whole night through and woke up several times due to how awful the mattress was. The shower did not warm up and was cold. Greater attention to details such as small amount of mould in the bathroom, squeaky wardrobe doors, chipped paint on common area doors, shampoo in the hand soap dispenser, no teaspoons in room, heafty room service charge, dated/dirty looking carpets, condensation in the walkway window between the panes of glass, as well as fixing the above mentioned issues could turn this establishment into a luxury experience like I imagine it was in the early 2000s. It was such a shame as we were really looking forward to relaxing away from home for a few nights and in the end couldn't wait to get back.

A tired hotel in need of an update. Cold evening and the air conditioning had failed so temporary heaters around the place to take the chill off. Room however the polar opposite. Restaurant food nice, but pricey for the surroundings. Number of gaps on the menu for sold out items, staff apologetic and helpful with suggestions on alternatives. Polite and helpful staff let down by an old venue.

Overpriced and understaffed
For a supposedly luxury hotel and spa, the service left something to be desired. For example the hotel receptionist said she was not able to find a cab to get us into the town nearby. So I made a phone call myself and found one immediately. Since the hotel is in the country I was surprised that they didn't have a shuttle. Breakfast service was also slow and the food wasn't good value for money. Overall, comfy beds, but it felt as though the hotel was understaffed. At times there wasn't even anyone on reception.

First impressions of my room was good until I went into the bathroom. It was obviously for people with reduced mobility, I don’t fit this category. It was very tired looking and not what I was expecting from a 4 star hotel. I was only staying for one night so it wasn’t a big problem. I had dinner in the bar, vey expensive and poor served with cold chips. Breakfast was vey average. I didn’t use the Golf Course as this wasn’t the purpose for my trip, but the grounds looked stunning from my window.

Our stay at the hotel was great, only a few things stopped me from giving 5 in certain areas. - toilet not flushing properly and figuring out it was blocked after using only a couple of times, this was swiftly fixed - steam room way too hot on first day, then broken on the second so unable to use with family staying in same hotel - no minifridge - no sockets next to bed for alarm setting on phone - prices of some drinks, we are aware this is a lovely hotel but over £7 for a pint of lager was way over what we expected - pool area very slippy when barefooted Some things that were great! - the lady with glasses at the front desk was just wonderful, so friendly and remembered us each time we saw her. Really personal experience - view from the room - no noise from other rooms - great sized shower (although could have been more powerful) - room was really clean and great size - breakfast and dinner both wonderful, especially young waitress with dark hair and an older lady who service each day at breakfast with light mousy hair, very cheerful and personable

Lovely atmosphere
Staff were wonderful and welcoming. Willing to fix any problems that arose such as the key card stopping working the second day. Nice rooms, lovely views and nice and quiet location.

Hotel lovely and a lovely setting. Room very nice and large. Just a note reception ask to take a pre-authorise on debit card, ours was £200 which is fine but on checkout they dont deduct this amount off the final bill instead charge the full amount, you have to wait a few days before receiving the pre-authorised amount back. So if you are on a tight budget maybe dont stay here

A great place in great nature. Spacious rooms, excellent check-in experience. The only disappointment is the breakfast - black coffee which is see-through, very limited choice, just the most basic bread slices for toasting. Not commensurate with the rest.

Staff were great. The hotel was let down by a group of men shouting obscenities around a table in the bar. They had no consideration for other guests. They clearly had very limited vocabulary. This went on for an hour, so if you have children, I would rethink the stay. Other than that it was a very nice hotel. Lovely location

All in all the stay was good and pleasant, one thing I missed at a place like this was a jacuzzi and one other thing was at the spa, My wife haded to have a refund for her nails

The room was big, modern and spacious. Facilities we’re good Whitchurch is a 20 minute brisk walk. If you need a taxi to come back in the evening, pre-book or you might also striggle to reach any of the nine taxi companies in the area. Breakfast was great as were the pool and gym. I can also recommend the Black Bear in town for its foods and craft ales.

great hotel but better communication
great rooms, swimming pool great,,cleaning and breakfast staff really good,reception staff not interested.i commented that i had tried for three days to contact the spa but to no avail ,they just said oh dear and carried on. need to have a better contact system on the phone. Also informed them that i wanted to bring my dog but had no reply to confirm so did not bring her.when signed out at end of stay reception tried to charge me for a dog for 2 nights.need better communication over all areas.
