"Been staying at Shutters for years and have always appreciated the good value, proximity to the beach and simple but clean rooms. This visit, the room had a damp feel and bad moldy smell to it. Breakfast is usually well supplied but this time no milk and several other items when I visited. Trash in room was picked up only once during my five night stay. Might be looking elsewhere."
"Place was nice and close to everything. Even walkable if you feel like taking a stroll. Had all you need for comfy stay. Beds were comfy, shower was hot and balcony was nice. Breakfast was not bad. Your typical hotel Breakfast but had it all. Pool was very nice. The beach was nice too, but be prepared for a journey through deep sand at entrance point. Parking easy. Staff very nice. Elevator situation was interesting but I just used the stairs to main elevator. Nice beach hotel."
Travelodge by Wyndham Outer Banks/Kill Devil Hills
4/10 Poor
"The photos need to be updated. It is very poorly maintained at this time. There were crumbs in the room on the carpet around the bed as well. The hotel also has a strange smell as soon as you walk in.
It was right across from the beach but I wish I had spent the extra $80 to stay elsewhere."
"Hotel has excellent ocean views and beach access. Rooms are large and have everything you need. Plenty of nice towels provided. The bed wasn't as soft as i like, but it was decent. The only issue was the carpet and chair were worn out and stained. Also, one night the TV lost antenna signal at midnight and apparenlty the office was not staffed 24/7 as no one responded via phone call or text."
"I stayed at Baymont by Wyndham in Elizabeth City, N.C over Memorial Day weekend because it was listed on Expedia I honestly regret it. Since it was a holiday weekend, most other hotels in the area were fully booked, so I didn’t have many options.
The room was absolutely disgusting. The couch had blood stains and white stains on it, the dresser was missing knobs, and there was black mold around the toilet and bathtub. Both air-conditioning units were cracked, and although it looked like they attempted some cosmetic repairs, everything was done very poorly. The carpet was also dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
To be completely honest, the condition of the property made it feel more like emergency housing than a hotel. I would strongly recommend staying somewhere else if you’re visiting Elizabeth City,N.C."
