About this property
Sunrise Cabin Lake Nahwatzel Stocked Lake 2Bd/1Bth
We are delighted to welcome you to Sunrise Cabin at beautiful Lake Nahwatzel in Mason County, Washington! We are thrilled to host you and offer a peaceful escape from everyday stress and the hustle of congested traffic! Sunrise cabin is, however, close enough for you to easily enjoy some of Seattle's special events. Seattle is approximately 90 minutes away by car, making day trips into the city convenient for our guests. For example, Seattle's Lumen Field will host World Cup Soccer from June 15 through July 6, 2026!
Lake Nahwatzel is a unique gem nestled at the base of the Olympic Mountains' foothills. The Lake is located in the middle of vast timberlands on the edge of the Olympic National Forest and was integral to the early days of logging. We who are lucky enough to live here feel blessed that our piece of paradise is far enough from the bustle of the state capital, Olympia, yet close enough to take advantage of the many amenities available in the more urban areas.
Lake Nahwatzel is home to eagles and osprey, deer and elk, beavers and otters, and everything in between. Though summer is the time most people think of summer activities like swimming, kayaking, and fishing, winter has its own charm when the swans, shorebirds, and other migrating birds arrive. Winter is quiet, serene, and peaceful; you can imagine the rest of the world no longer exists. In the spring, if you are lucky, you will hear the haunting call of the loon.
Nahwatzel Lake is open year-round for fishing, and is stocked each spring and fall exclusively with larger rainbow trout averaging a pound apiece. But it also receives even larger rainbows from 3 to 8 pounds each, making it a great destination for quality trout fishing in Mason County.
This is the latest stocking report: October 7, 2025, 300 Rainbow @ 1.79lbs September 30, 2025, 605 Rainbow @ 1.79lbs September 30, 2025, 95 Rainbow @ 7.14lbs September 22, 2025, 2000 Rainbow @ 1.08lbs
This cabin includes the use of a fishing canoe and kayaks; upon request, fishing gear is also available. A fishing license is easily obtained locally, and you can launch or fish from your own private dock!
Inside, you will find a fully-equipped kitchen with modern appliances, cookware, and dinnerware provided, making it easy to prepare meals during your stay. We offer complimentary Wi-Fi so you can stay connected as needed. Fresh linens and towels are supplied for your comfort. The cabin is heated and cooled for year-round comfort, ensuring a cozy retreat no matter the season. Other thoughtful amenities include a washer and dryer, coffee maker, and basic toiletries for your convenience.
We are extra fortunate, because we are the last house at the end of the road, and nothing and no one is beyond us for many miles. If you are looking for solitude or fun on the water, look here! Read a book, take out a canoe, plunk a fishing lure into the water off the cabin's private pier, or explore the many sights of the Olympic Peninsula, using this as a starting or stopping point. You can take the ferry to Seattle, visit Mt. Rainier, discover our state capital, or snuggle in and hide from the world. For dining out, there are several local favorites nearby. The Alderbrook Resort & Restaurant in Union, WA, is a popular spot for waterfront dining and delicious Northwest cuisine. Blondies in Shelton is a great choice for casual meals and family-friendly fare, and Leonard K's Boat House, 18 miles north of Shelton, serves up hearty dishes on the water. For groceries and essentials, Safeway and Fred Meyer in Shelton offer everything you need. If you're looking for a fun excursion, try the famous Olympic Bakery & Deli for pastries and sandwiches. Families often enjoy visiting the nearby Ridge Motorsports Park for go-karting and events, Vance Creek Railriders for interactive fun, or the Hood Canal for hiking and wildlife viewing. We are happy to provide more recommendations tailored to your interests!
This is a generational family-owned home with good potable water, bordered by private forest, free of traffic, and with plenty of peace! We look forward to sharing our special space with you. We have tried to make the cabin inviting, comfortable, and up to date for you. Enjoy!

We really enjoyed our early November stay at this lovely cabin! Sitting by the gas fireplace and enjoying the stunning lake view was a great way to wind down after some hiking and kayaking.
We had a wonderful stay! The cabin had a gorgeous view of the lake, truly the best spot on the water. The hosts were exceptional, by far the best we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thoughtful, welcoming, and attentive. Highly recommend!
Great property on the water. Hosts were very helpful with suggestions for sights to see while in the area. Be aware that you will need to carry luggage down a hill and steps into the property from the parking spot.
A perfect place to enjoy our Washington family
The house had everything we needed, well stocked kitchen. Enjoyed the kayaks with the grandchildren and the lake was so beautiful. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The lake is beautiful and enjoyed watching people water ski and fish. Owners are very kind. Their house sits behind the cabin therefore, provided privacy. New furniture was comfortable, beds are nice too! We will be back!
Sunrise cabin was exactly what we were looking for to spend our child-free anniversary weekend away! (Although our kids would have loved it too)
It was an absolute gem. We loved being able to just wake up and go fishing off the dock or go out on our paddle board and the kayaks. We enjoyed hiking in the area too. The hosts, Dave and Betsy, are so sweet and accommodating.
We definitely plan to visit again!
We rented this cabin with our two grandsons, 12 and 13. They had a blast canoeing and kyaking. The hosts Dave and Betsy were on site to assist with any needs or questions we had. The cabin was top notch-- very clean and well stocked with so many items we needed. The boys enjoyed fishing and caught a few too. I highly recommend this vacation cabin.
We (myself, spouse, and 2 kids ages 10 and 6) had a wonderful week. The house was spotless and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe and the peacefulness of the lake. We will definitely return. One of our favorite weeks away from home in years.
Beautiful setting overlooking the lake, and comfortable, up-to-date accommodations. Access to the lake and water sports and toys was right in your backyard, and access to Olympic National Park was relatively close. Very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Thanks for sharing.
Had a great time away from the city. I was able to fish off the dock. My partner and I also were able to use the canoe that was available. It actually inspired us to look into getting one of our own. Overall had a relaxing time on the lake and look forward to another visit in the future.
The huge deck is what sold me! The view and the sounds of the water on the shore were so relaxing. We enjoyed a lap around the lake on the kayaks, a game of scrabble on the deck followed by a glass of wine at sunset. The movies we watched at night with some of the treats supplied were a blast from the past! The only thing we missed out on was a day hike because it was bear cub season and a nighttime fire because of dry conditions which they had no control over. Dave and Betsy were very friendly and made us feel welcome.
Taking work with me while the family is on spring break seemed like a bad idea, but it turned out to be an amazing workcation thanks to Betsy and David at their excellent cabin by the lake.
We were looking for a little getaway with kids out of school for the week, despite having reservations elsewhere, we were drawn to Dave and Betsy's cabin and changed our plans last minute after stumbled upon it on the site. I needed to work while there, so it was important that I had a decent connection. While there was a tiny internet hiccup on the first day, Dave and Betsy were very responsive and resolved it quickly and we had no trouble for the rest of the stay. The cabin is fully stocked with just about everything we would need for a comfortable stay. The location and view, unbeatable, the deck, amazing. We had a great time kayaking and canoeing on the lake and took a hike in the area. Kids roasted marshmallow on the fire pit in the evening. Everyone had a great time and we are already looking forward to returning in the future.
Rarely does a vacation rental exceed our expectations, but Sunrise Cabin certainly did! Wow, spectacular views of the lake and forest surrounding the cabin. Coming from a city, the best part was the quiet, peace and tranquility offered by its superb location right next to the water and away from any traffic or road noise. There are neighbors on one side, but they are not close and the cabin remains very private. The hosts, Betsy and Dave, were warm, welcoming and so generous for sharing their amazing cabin with us. We had so much fun on the kayaks and canoe! Lake Nahwazel is the perfect size lake, not too big and not too small. Excellent for novices to the more advanced at water sports. In addition to the water activities, there are hiking trails around the cabin allowing for long nature walks. The cabin was very clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. There are restaurants in the nearby town of Shelton (12 miles away), but we opted to buy groceries at the Shelton Safeway and enjoy all of our meals on the cabin's fabulous deck overlooking the lake. We did not want to leave the spectacular view! It does not get any better than this setting. We will definitely make it a point to return again and again to enjoy this serene, tranquil and peaceful cabin. Please be respectful guests so that Betsy and Dave continue to make their cabin available for vacation rentals. Thank you Betsy and Dave for sharing your slice of paradise with us!
From the moment we walked in, we were grinning. Everything about it met or exceeded or expectation. And the host (as well as the owners) could not have been more helpful. Wish I could have boxed it up and brought it home with me.
We had an amazing week at Sunrise Cabin on Lake Nahwatzel. The cabin is nicely furnished, supplies were plentiful, and the owners were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe, fishing off the dock, swimming, hiking on the road through the woods, eating our meals on the deck, and day trips to a local fish hatchery and Olympic National Park. Everything was well maintained and clean, ready for our wonderful vacation. We'd definitely like to stay here again.
The beauty of the location and comfort of the rental were amazing - only to be surpassed by the friendliness of the hosts. It was our best rental experience and we can't wait to return next summer.
Our family had great time at the Sunrise cabin. We were looking for a place to relax and swim and the cabin is perfect for just that. Our kids loved jumping off the dock, and with the kayaks and canoe it offered a variety the entire family could enjoy together. The cabin was located at the end of the lake, along the large stretch of trees, allowing us to enjoy the quiet as well as the wildlife. The owners live next door and were wonderful. We look forward to coming back for another great time at Lake Nahwatzel and have shared the spot with all of our family, friends, and coworkers so they can experience it too.
