We celebrated our family Christmas and this house was perfect for the whole family ages 11 to 73. There was plenty of room for our group of 11 people to eat, sleep, and play together or alone. The host was easy to communicate with.
House has lots of games and outdoor space that made for excellent family time. Also a great launching spot for the creeper trail. Host was very communicative and helpful before and during our trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shady House. The atmosphere was homey and the host was beyond accommodating. The only issue was, we would have liked to stay longer than our schedules allowed. The sudden cold weather front that moved in could have been an issue but our host had everything covered and we were warm and cozy throughout.
The setting is rural, the scenery is breathtaking, and we look forward to coming back.
Thank you, Kate!
Me and my brother and 4 friends stayed for 5 days and we absolutely loved the old style historic home. We were there for the race weekend at Bristol. Enjoyed the fire pit at night and all the amenities. Mrs. Kate supplied everything needed to have a great stay and answered any questions we had. Probably the nicest owner I’ve ever dealt with on rentals. Hope to return next year. Oh, and the shady valley store about 200 yards away has delicious food and super nice people.

Great house, lots of room, beautiful view!
We loved the house, particularly the history and the character. Spotlessly clean, lots of room, big yard, and all the furnishings were nice and comfortable. Great communication with the owner who took pains to make sure our stay was complete and trouble free. We will be coming back!
Perfect place for large or small crowd. Home was well stocked with anything that could possibly imagine needing! Nice touches throughout the home. Nice large yard with plenty of room inside and out.
Would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future!

Great place for a large family and beautiful, mountain area!
Kate was so friendly and helpful throughout the planning process and even during our stay. The house has a lot of space for larger families and/or kids. House has a nice layout with a large, open area for entertainment. The house was also in very close proximity to several desired locations for biking, hiking, shopping, sightseeing, etc. We had a great experience at the Shady House!
The Shady House is always perfect. This was our third trip to the property and definitely not our last. It truly has become our home away from home and will be a part of my children’s memories for the rest of their lives.
There is so much to do in the area, but the house it’s self is a destination. The owner Kate is beyond accommodating and a very gracious host
This was our fourth trip to the Shady House, and it’s like a home away from home for my family. There is so much to do in the area, but the house it’s self is a destination. It truly is like staying with family. Kate goes out of her way to be sure you are comfortable.
We’ve made a lifetime of memories here, and will definitely be back!

We loved it!!
My family had a great weekend!! The house was perfect for us. Kate had everything there we could need or want! When she said "just bring your clothes and food", she meant it. The game room and ping pong table were a big hit with our family. We did the Creeper Trail while we stayed here, which is nice and close! We will definitely be visiting again.

Peaceful Home in Shady Valley
A cozy house with a wonderful history, a great location (close the the VA Creeper Trail) and a very hospitable owner. We are already planning to return to Shady Valley & the Shady House. We sat for hours on the front porch and saw more deer and tractors than cars. The Shady House can handle a large group and give everyone space. A very peaceful setting. BG, Taylors, SC
