Seybaplaya is a small fishing town with a lively port and a stunning beach dotted with huts. Surrounding the charming town are many pristine stretches of sand that stand in utter isolation and tranquility. Snap photos of the blue-green water of the Gulf of Mexico as its light waves lap the soft, white sand of the main beach.
Stroll leisurely along the beach that flanks the port town. Paddle along the placid water in a kayak that you can rent from operators on the beach. Other watersports equipment is also available. Go snorkeling in the calm sea to spot the array of colourful fish.
Enjoy the year-round warm weather while sunbathing on the beach. Read a book and watch people go by. Take shelter from the heat in one of the many huts that adorn the strand.
Have lunch or dinner at one of the numerous restaurants backing onto the beach and spread out across the town. Local seafood specialties include octopus, bass, dogfish and grouper. At the back of the beach are verdant mountains covered in tropical vegetation.
A little north of the town is the Balneario Payucán, a quiet beach that is particularly popular during the Holy Week before Easter.
In the northern part of the town is the Seybaplaya Port, where you can pick out your favourites from the many docked vessels. Stroll along the stony pier and enjoy the views of the water and the nearby beaches.
Seybaplaya is in the centre of the coastal stretch of the state of Campeche in southeastern Mexico. Drive southwest from Campeche city for 19 miles (30 kilometres) to get here in less than 30 minutes.
