Eagle's Nest Cabin on Salmon Creek
Located along what locals call Eagle Alley, the property sits on Salmon Creek and is the perfect location for your whole family's Alaskan adventures. The cabin is on a quiet street away from the bustle of town, but still close for a quick trip to the grocery store, Exit Glacier, or the Sea Life Center. You'll be surrounded by mountain views and access to a rushing river with spawning salmon all summer. Salmon Creek attracts many bald eagles, and they are often seen fishing. Most years, a nest is built in the cottonwood tree near the river. If active, you'll see chicks in the nest by June and July. By August they'll be pretty confident in flight. We often have moose wander through the property and even the occasional brown bear can be seen in the creek when the salmon are running.
The house features vaulted wood ceilings, 1st floor bathroom, 2nd floor master bathroom, and on-site laundry. The attached 3-season room (or "arctic entry" as they are know here) offers an outdoor dining area or place to dry out clothes or fishing gear. You will find a queen beds in the upstairs master bedroom and 1st floor bedroom, and twin bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom. All bedroom windows have thick curtains for blocking out Alaska's midnight sun. The house is on the smaller side at 1,000sf but vaulted ceilings, huge windows, and large yard give it a spacious feel.
The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, utensils, knife set, cutting boards, and bowls/cups/plates. For appliances you'll find a microwave, stove/oven, toaster, coffee maker/grinder (filters and locally roasted whole bean coffee are supplied), and full size refrigerator/freezer. We stock a choice of coffees, selection of tea, cooking oil, and common spices. Outside, there is a fire pit and Webber charcoal grill (charcoal is supplied).
The forested property has a path that winds through patches of wild strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries ending at the private shore of the creek. You'll find a fire-pit with benches and a charcoal grill (supplies included).
The yard is a typical rural Alaskan yard: lots of alder, low bushy willow, an old shed, devil's club, dandelion, and fireweed. In other words, a little wild, but excellent moose browse and cover. Moose don't browse or feel comfortable on lawns. South-central Alaska is like a jungle in the summer, and although there is a lawn of sorts and plenty of room for the fire pit or even a round of wiffleball, much of the property is left wild.
There is an owner occupied cabin on the far side of the one acre property. We're available to chat and answer questions outside of our busy summer jobs, or available anytime via phone or message.
House Rules: At least one person from each party should read the house manual upon arrival.
The house is on a private well and septic system. The tap water is great: double filtered, fresh, and clean tasting. The septic system requires care to ensure no oil or food enter the drains. Wipe out oily pans with paper towels and throw away.
Quiet hours are 11pm-8am. Ours is a peaceful quiet neighborhood. No outdoor music/yelling during quiet hours. Parties are not allowed.
Children should be supervised near the creek.
Wildlife uses the property and has "right of way". Do not approach any wildlife on the property or anywhere in Alaska. We have never had any issue and the neighborhood is safe for children, but we ask visitors simply to be aware of their surroundings. Eagles and their nests are federally protected, it is against the law to disturb a nest, eagles, or a nest tree.
We have a can of "Bear Spray" available if you want to carry it while hiking in the area. Please return it to the porch when you are done. We ask that bear spray not be brought inside the house.

The property was beautiful and the house was nicely kept. We had very good and efficient communication with the owner. It was in a great location, easy to get to hikes and to the town. Overall it was a very easy process and relaxed stay.
This was a lovely property, very close to town, but far enough away to be out of chaos. The creek was beautiful. The property had everything we needed. Wish we could have stayed longer, would stay here again if we were to make it to Seward again. The owner was real personable, we enjoyed chatting with him.
We stayed here as 2 couples anreally liked the remoteness. We met Carl and he was very friendly and helpful.
The house was well stocked and the whole coffee beans were a real hit.
The appliances seemed really new which we liked.
We loved wathing the bald eagle. We missed seeing the bear although one was around during the night.
We would definitely recommend this place to others.
First of all, that's a real moose on his picture (not a statue)!
Very cozy rustic Alaskan home. Owner very good at communicating. The place was very clean and as described. Eagle's Nest is a great description as there are many eagles in the area - we even saw one (maybe more) while there. Location is very convenient to Seward.
We loved this home and the area around it. I've never seen so many bald eagles in my life and I am an active birder and go out looking for them frequently where I live
(they are common here in New England also). There were constantly bald eagles flying overhead. We took many short walks to the stream to find more eagles on the sandbars or in the trees overhead. The 'abandoned' eagles nest had one or two eagles perched there most of the time we were there....a short walk to the RR tracks by Salmon Creek road led to an rea with 50+ eagles in the trees....it was amazing to view. The home itself was right-sized for our group of 5--very clean and had everything we needed for our short stay.
This cabin has a great location and Karl was very thoughtful about providing detailed information and everything we needed for an inviting stay. He also had great local insights and recommendations for our time over July 4. The home was very clean, had plenty of space for our family group of 6, and was a quick drive to the grocery store and Seward. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the area.

Enjoyed Eagle’s Nest very much! Perfect for our group, we had everything we needed, would absolutely stay there again!
We were happy with the cabin. It had a hunting/fishing cabin vibe but we liked that. It was off a gravel road surrounded by woods and walking distance to a creek. Although in the woods, it was still only 10min away to restaurants, the grocery store, and Kenai Fjords park entrance. If ever back in the Seward area, we would stay there again.
Eagle's Nest Cabin is sweet! It's in a beautiful, quiet setting -- close to Seward but away from all the hubbub. It was nice to access the cabin with a good old-fashioned key, not having to fool with codes and such. The cabin is very comfortable, and is well-stocked and supplied with everything needed, as well as a nice selection of games and books. Got a good night's sleep there and left refreshed in the morning. Would stay there again on future visits to Seward!
We spent three nights at Owls nest. The eagle fledglings we’re active along with perched eagle parents watching from above the house each night !
The cabin is rustic - we planned on doing a lot of cooking and it could use a few more pans but overall was well equipped. Very convenient to downtown Seward without the crowds. We enjoyed our stay !

Comfortable Home in the Alaskan Woods
We were looking for a house in the Alaskan woods to get a good feel for the rural environment and were not disappointed. The eagle's nest in the backyard was the icing on the cake. Perhaps a little rough around the edges for some folk, but turned out to be one of my family's favorite stays during our Alaskan trip to Seward, Anchorage, and Denali. We were a family of 6, all adults, so the bunk bed room was probably a little cramped for our older son and daughter, but no complaints. The ride into town was easy and the kayaking was so much fun!

Disliked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Pictures on line were not what we found. Upstairs bathroom had mold around the shower, flooring around showing was soft. Master bedroom had a blanket for one curtain, the other curtain had a hole in it that was closed by a safety pin. No TV, no form of entertainment. Could not go outside, weeds surrounded the back door and "firepit" area. After looking up the types of plants, one appeared to be type of plant that was bad if it was touched. There were boots and tools left on the front porch Side of the house had board missing. Definitely not worth the money that we spent to stay there.
