The Grand Porch Oasis - Historic YWCA Building

Summary:
Looking for that true front-porch-rocking chair experience of the South? The Grand Porch Oasis has you covered! Grab that sweet tea on ice (or maybe a mojito) and head out to the balcony overlooking the beautiful and historic Oglethorpe Avenue. This location has a 97 Walk Score, the absolute perfect central location to be in Savannah. Only short blocks to some of the best restaurants and shops that the City has to offer, including The Collins Quarter, Husk, Flying Monk, Cup to Cup Coffee, Public Kitchen & Bar, and so much more. We are surrounded by museums, historic homes, haunted inns and all things Savannah! This cozy, light-filled historic Ywca condo was just remodeled at the end of 2021 and serves you with high-speed WiFi, a smart TV, Keurig coffee maker and a fully-equipped kitchen. The renovation spared the gorgeous original floors and stunning balcony, yet offers the modern amenities that we can't live without. The Queen bedroom has plenty of closet and storage space with tall windows letting plenty of morning sun in when needed. The twin bedroom has private access to the balcony via the French doors so you can take in the night breeze without disturbing the others. The modern bathroom is covered in beautiful title and offers a sliding glass door. You absolutely don't want to miss out on this location and stunning condo.

The Space:
Gorgeous original maple flooring, extremely high ceilings, pronounced trim and other historic features take you back in time where sipping sweet tea over good conversation was a common routine. We have a fully-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, laundry closet for washing/drying your clothes and plenty of seating space. We have a full table set in case you want to show off your culinary skills and have a formal sit-down meal. The cozy living room gets tons of light from the huge windows and French doors, so you can have a sunny morning breakfast to start the day off right! The twin room is a nice additional space for those with a child or maybe just a third-wheeler :) Easy to "work from home" with the high-speed Wi-Fi and plenty of table space to set up at.

Guest Access:
You have 24/7 access to the entire condo, make yourself at home! being on the first floor, you can walk up the front steps and access your unit with ease. The balcony is totally private to you and your group. It is actually the only balcony in the condo building that is occupied. You have access to the rear courtyard which is shared with the condo building. There is a charcoal BBQ grill and plenty of outdoor seating back there. This is the only place you may smoke. There is a storage space in the lobby where folks keep their bikes should you want to bring yours, or leave your luggage while you go explore if you're waiting on a later flight out.

The Neighborhood:
We are located at Oglethorpe and Whitaker, an absolute prime location. You are walking distance to EVERYTHING. That said, if you're bringing a car, we suggest parking in the Robinson Parking garage which is only a few blocks from the condo. You may park out front also but it is metered, and sometimes hard to find a space. It is free on Sundays. We are surrounded by some of the best local restaurants in town and only a short walk to River Street, Bay Street and City Market. You really don't even need an Uber/Lyft at this location, walking is so easy from here :)

Getting Around:
Again, walking can easily be your first choice. Aside from that, there is a FREE trolley bus called the DOT shuttle that takes you all arounf the historic district. There is a stop just two blocks down at Whitaker and Liberty St. This is a nice way to get a good view of the City and have an easy hop-on-ho-off option that's free. Another free option is The Downtowner, which is an app like Uber/Lyft but ran by the City and completely free! It runs 10am-midnight daily. If you do need to bring a car, we suggest the "leave it and forget it" option - just park it in the garage and don't pick it up until it's time to leave.

Other Things to Note:
The condo building is mostly long-term residents so please respect your neighbors and keep your inside voices on. "Quiet hours" are from 10pm-8am. Please be a courteous guest and help us show the City of Savannah how important you all are to us!

Interaction with Guests:
We are available to guests via mobile Monday-Friday 9am-9pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-8pm. We don't live far so if you should need anything or have any issues, just let us know.
If you have any emergencies call 911.

My Favorite Getaway
I have been visiting Savannah for many years, staying in various airb&b’s and hotels. THIS is my favorite place to stay. The location is makes all of Savannah easily accessible. The condo was spectacularly clean and very comfortable and well appointed. The bed and linens are top quality. The kitchen well stocked (tea/coffee accessories a plus) and all of the furniture comfortable. The deck only adds to the perfectness of the condo. Can not wait to stay here again and will plan my travel around it's availability. Thank you for a wonderful getaway.

Mom's birthday trip
I brought my mom to Savannah to celebrate her 80th birthday. We had a lovely trip. The apartment was exactly as advertised. Clean, beautiful, comfortable. We loved sitting in the rockers on the porch. There are many people to watch and the trees all around make it a great way to spend time. Hosts were responsive when I asked a couple questions about bag storage options. No complaints at all, would definitley stay here again.

Convenient, clean, safe, but not for light sleepers
We were able to check in early on our day of arrival and communication with the owners was VERY easy and prompt! The property is centrally located and very walkable to Savannah sights. The unit was as pictured, clean, and newly renovated-we had a key for the front door to the building and a code for the door of the unit. Beds were super comfy and linens were ample. As previous reviews stated, and we knew going in, the property is on a busy street and the historic windows of this unit face that busy street. It is very loud at night, especially on the weekends.

The Perfect Spot
My friends and I LOVED this apartment and would absolutely stay there again. We had first-floor access with that fabulous porch. We felt extra safe by having the lobby and not a door directly on the street. The garage parking was a good deal and a super short walk. Street parking was available if we had wanted to park there (more$$ than the garage). We walked everywhere we wanted to visit except Bonaventure Cemetery. FYI, if you go to this cemetery, the girl with the bird statue is at Telfair Museum. We googled it after looking for a looong time for it! The place is lovely with lots of hot water and comfy linens. Just know this is an older building (with the character you’re looking for in an older building) and you are in the heart of the historic district. You WILL hear traffic noise at all hours and people on the sidewalks of this college area (SCAD). The noise machines provided did the trick and I slept like a rock! If you require absolute darkness to sleep, bring a sleep mask. Thanks for an awesome getaway!

Lovely and Spacious
This apartment is in a great location, central to all of the historic district action and very close to SCAD. A nice alternative to staying in a hotel during freshman move-in week, with space to relax between activities. Highly recommend!

Wonderful stay
We had a wonderful stay. The location of this property was perfect. It was near everything near the river walk and even if you wanted to take a ride, which we did a few times, the cost was minimal. The home was clean and had everything we needed. It was the perfect size for my sister and I. It would be great for a couple and one child or two to three friends. The rocking chairs on the porch were wonderful, we spent our mornings and our evenings outside people watching. The intersection where the house is located was always busy, traffic, people so it was great entertainment. The noise is noticeable but they provide a white noise machine that I didn't use because I use my phone. It was too bad and we were so tired from walking during the day that the noise didn't bother us much at all. The home is remodeled but in an old YMCA building. The property owners were really nice and communicated very well. Check-in process was easy. Parking was a 5 min walk from the house. The decor was modern and very inviting. The beds were very comfortable, I have back problems and either I was too tired to notice pain or the beds were just that comfortable. I would rent this home again for the location and comfort.

Lovely, comfortable, and clean!!!
My friend and I had a wonderful stay at this sweet, well appointed home. It was the perfect size and had everything we could possibly need for a weekend in Savannah. The home is centrally located and felt very safe. The porch, with its comfy rocking chairs, was a bonus we didn’t know we needed! The owners were very easily accessible and attentive when we had questions and were super accommodating. All and all, wonderful home, wonderful city, wonderful trip!

Convenient central location
Fantastic, convenient location. Near the Liberty Street and Whitaker stop on the purple DOT fare-free circulator bus line down to Forsyth Park and up to River street area. The porch was delightful, but understand it is on Oglethorpe, which is noisy with walking and car traffic. It isn’t bad, just have realistic expectations. The kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms were comfortable. Dinner at Chive Sea Bar and Lounge is walkable and delicious. Check out Avalon Exchange vintage store and Blicks Art supplies, both Savannah institutions.
