We arrived at around 2am on an Orange taxi from the airport (about 5-10 minutes and $10us) Taxi driver did not want to wait for us to be let inside. Rang the bell twice and after 1-2 minutes staff opened the door, greeted us and showed us the room. Driver did at least wait until someone was obviously awake and coming. 5 stars for the fact that my WhatsApp messages to the hotel were answered promptly and they actually let us inside quickly upon arrival. Room itself was very basic and had no windows to the outside( just to the hallway) but had the essentials and good hot water for showering. Also seemed to be totally wheelchair accessible, and had good wifi with password posted in common areas. And the included breakfast and coffee was restaurant quality and excellent. (Gallo pinto, pan tostado, plátano frito, huevo y salchicha, café y mas ). Staff were all friendly and helpful. I booked on short notice thru expedia. Security , 24 hr front desk, communication, and price were my top priorities due to late flight arrival to SJO. I was worried about being stuck outside somewhere in the city in the middle of the night without a working cell phone and didn't want to pay big chain prices nearer the airport.Tucán delivered on security and communication and served an awesome breakfast as well.

The place was very clean and the hosts very friendly and helpful. For the price it was about as expected. The neighborhood is very busy, but being near the airport was good. I would probably stay here again if I was by myself.

The hotel is actually really quiet - no windows helps- like an old office building turned hotel. We stayed mid week not on a weekend. No elevator - (Not a problem for us) beds are Costa Rican hard (normal Everywhere you go unless your paying for luxury) AC works - not ice cold but better than a Fan! Restaurants are walking distance and good. We would definitely stay again when we’re flying out!! They let us park right in front of the hotel.

Hole in ceiling above shower where a light used to be, had to plug it with toilet paper to feel like someone wouldn’t look in. A/C leaked, bed was not comfortable, noisy in front area. Parking is in a pay lot down the street. Breakfast was delicious.

I had no idea what to expect of this property or area. When I arrived, the staff was friendly and helpful but there was no food services at the hotel. Breakfast was a 4-5 blocks away at another hotel. The bed was comfortable but there was no fan.

The bedsheets were full of hair and crumbs, for sure no one bothered to clean them. There were also tons of hair in the bathroom, alongside a multitude of bloodstains. Also the door could not be locked properly. If you don't want to contract any diseases stay clear of this filthy hellhole.

We had to book last minute so i decided to ignore the reviews and choose it for the price. The place could use some iimprovement. We did see a couple of tiny roaches in our room and had to take cold showers becaause there was no hot water. They did not provide the top sheet so we had to cover just with the little blankets wich i never like to do because i know they dont always wash those in the small hotels. Ok n the other hand the receptionist gave us excellent aervice and was very helpful and kind. Breakfast was simple, no meats and no eggs.

We arrived and the hotel did not room for us, even when i already booked and paid for that. Since it was too late (the flight arrive late) i was not able to find another hotel. Finally i found one at 2am paying a rate that not make sense but i have two kids and i needed a solution. I am totally frustrated. At least i expect that expedia return my money soon.

Stay away at all costs

Truthfully, you should just stay at the airport if you are using this for a quick overnight or literally anywhere else, this was a top worst experience and I stayed in some pretty interesting places over the years. First, you will receive only one towel if you’re booking for a party of five, but they will allow you to pay extra for more towels, which are more like dirty rags. There’s only cold water, so don’t anticipate taking a nice hot shower before turning into your bug infested bed. Oh, and also note that the whole place is flooding, the shower flooded into our room, reception was flooding, there’s holes in the ceilings and it’s not a quiet place at all. We were quite literally deadbolt, locked in the hotel, and unable to leave with no receptionist to be found for over 20 minutes, causing us to have to call a second Uber and quite a bit of stress as no one answered the doorbell, the phone calls or are pleased for someone to come let us out. Why would anyone deadbolt you inside a building? What a fire hazard. We all woke up, covered in bug bites, and the pillows are nearly nonexistent. They are so flat. There’s no redeeming quality about staying here.
