Hôtel le Bout du Monde

Hôtel le Bout du Monde

10/10 Excellent
"The hotel is quite well-named; it really feels like the end of the world. Their dinner menu with a 17-euro three-course meal, aperitifs at 2.5 euros and a 50cl carafe of very drinkable wine at 6 euros made the place feel like a steal. HIghly recommended?"

Hotel Les Glycines

Hotel Les Glycines

10/10 Excellent
"We booked this hotel very, very last minute as we had started to grow tired on the road. It was no problem at all and we were able to go straight to our room. The room was modern and comfortable and we slept really well . The doors do take a good push to close and are noisy when closing - but once the hotel had settled for the night it was a lovely calm environment. The village is very quaint and a self guided walking tour is suggested in the room which we would recommend that you do. The breakfast was phenomenal - even the yoghurt is home made. Downsides - if you book last minute you may not be able to eat at the restaurant and even if you book in advance you should reserve. There is no other places to eat a meal in the village. So having to drive out to another restaurant was a bit annoying after a long drive during the day. It would be good if maybe an option was available for weary travellers even if the full restaurant experience was not possible. Maybe a salad for you to eat in your room or at the outside tables? Equally - although the breakfast was excellent it is only served from 8:00 to 9:30 on a Sunday morning (probably to enable to team to prepare for a busy lunch service in the restaurant). It is a shame - especially since check out is 11am. Would still revisit if ever passing though. A lovely, none pretentious stop away a short drive from the A75."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Saint-Poncy?
The best area to stay in Saint-Poncy is within the village centre itself, particularly around the church and main square. This central area is the heart of Saint-Poncy and where you'll find the local boulangerie, a small grocery shop, and a couple of traditional restaurants. The streets are narrow and winding, typical of a historic French village, and the village is built on a hillside, offering views of the surrounding countryside. It's a small, compact area, making everything easily accessible on foot.Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It offers a genuine taste of rural French life, with opportunities for gentle strolls through the village and enjoying quiet evenings. The local auberge often serves regional dishes, superb for a relaxed dinner.Families might prefer staying slightly on the outskirts of the village, perhaps in a gîte or holiday rental with a bit more space. These properties often come with private gardens, which are great for children to play in. You're still only a short walk or drive from the village centre's amenities but gain more room and privacy.
When is the best time to go to Saint-Poncy?
The best time to visit Saint-Poncy is during the warmer months, specifically from late May to early September, when the weather is most pleasant for outdoor activities.During these months, you'll experience mild to warm temperatures, typically ranging from 18°C to 28°C, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Auvergne region. The countryside is lush, and the days are long, allowing for extended excursions. This period is great for travellers who enjoy hiking, cycling, or simply relaxing outdoors.Families often find the summer holidays, particularly July and August, to be the most convenient time. Many local attractions, such as the nearby Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne, are fully operational, offering activities suitable for all ages. There are also frequent local markets and village festivals during this time, providing a glimpse into local life. For couples seeking a more tranquil escape, late May to June or early September offers a wonderful balance. The weather is still excellent, but there are fewer crowds compared to the peak summer weeks.
