About this property

400-Year-Old Château de la Coutère | Private Valley, Pool, Gardens & Waterfalls

  • CHÂTEAU DE LA COUTERE – YOUR OWN SECLUDED CHÂTEAU IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE

A 400-year-old French château, a large private swimming pool, 30 acres of gardens and woodland, beautiful waterfalls and an entire secluded valley to enjoy.

Hidden away in the rolling countryside of southwest France, Château de la Coutère offers something rather special: the opportunity to enjoy a historic French château surrounded by nature, with exceptional privacy from neighbouring properties, yet just a short drive from traditional market towns, restaurants, shops, swimming lakes and plenty of things to see and do.

Sleeping up to 16 guests across six bedrooms, the château is ideal for family holidays, groups of friends and several generations coming together. Whether you're looking for lazy days beside the pool, adventures with the children or long summer evenings spent eating and laughing together, there's plenty of space for everyone to enjoy their holiday.

    YOUR OWN PRIVATE CHÂTEAU VALLEY

The château is approached along its own 1.5 km country road, leading into a beautiful secluded valley with no neighbouring houses within approximately 2 km.

Surrounded by 30 acres of private gardens, parkland and woodland, and with the River Save running alongside the estate, it's a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Explore the woodland paths, discover the château's waterfalls, enjoy walks beside the river or simply find a quiet spot in the gardens and take in the surroundings.

There's a real sense of freedom here, with space for children to explore and adults to relax, without the crowds of a busy holiday resort.

POOL DAYS, OUTDOOR LIVING AND FAMILY FUN

During the summer months, life at Château de la Coutère revolves around the outdoors.

The large 10 m × 5 m private swimming pool is a favourite with guests of all ages, whether it's an early morning swim, an afternoon cooling off in the sunshine or a final dip as the evening draws in.

Around the château, you'll find terraces, comfortable outdoor seating, dining areas and barbecues, with plenty of space for everyone to come together for meals or spread out and relax.

Children love the freedom of the grounds, with tree swings, a trampoline, garden games and woodland to explore. There's plenty to keep them entertained without even leaving the property.

And when evening arrives, there's nothing quite like gathering around the outdoor table for a leisurely meal, enjoying a drink beneath the fairy lights and watching the sun set over the pool and valley.

HISTORIC CHARM WITH THE COMFORTS OF HOME

With more than 400 years of history, Château de la Coutère is full of character, from its original oak floors and beautiful architectural features to its generously proportioned rooms.

Over recent years, we've lovingly renovated the château, combining its historic charm with the comforts of a welcoming family home. Antique and vintage furniture sits alongside more contemporary pieces, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where guests can truly make themselves at home.

The château has six spacious bedrooms, each with direct ensuite access to ensuite bathroom facilities. Two bedrooms have their own private ensuite bathrooms, while the other four bedrooms are arranged in pairs, sharing two Jack and Jill bathrooms with direct access from each bedroom.

This arrangement works particularly well for families and multigenerational groups, something our guests regularly tell us they appreciate. There's also an additional downstairs WC.

Bed linen and towels are provided and included in the rental price.

The grand salon provides a lovely place for everyone to relax together, while the spacious dining room is ideal for family meals and celebrations. The large, well-equipped kitchen makes preparing meals for a group straightforward, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor cooking and dining during the warmer months.

There are also quieter spaces to retreat to when you fancy a little time to yourself.

A SWIMMING BEACH, WATERSPORTS AND LAKESIDE RESTAURANTS NEARBY

If you can tear yourselves away from the château, there's plenty to discover locally.

One of the highlights for families are the nearby Lakes, with their swimming beaches, watersports and lakeside places to eat and drink, open from spring to autumn.

They are wonderful places to spend the day, whether you're looking for a change from the château pool, some fun on the water or simply somewhere to enjoy lunch beside the lakes.

There are also golf courses, beautiful countryside walks, cycling routes and charming medieval villages to explore, local Roman ruins and castles, all with plenty of opportunities for days out for all ages.

FRENCH MARKETS, RESTAURANTS AND VILLAGE LIFE

Although the château feels wonderfully secluded, you're never far from the conveniences of everyday life.

The very nearby market towns of L'Isle-en-Dodon and Boulogne-sur-Gesse offer supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, local shops and traditional French markets, perfect for picking up fresh produce, discovering regional specialities or enjoying a leisurely lunch.

Our local village of Saint-Laurent-sur-Save is also close by, while the surrounding countryside is filled with picturesque villages and the relaxed pace of life that makes this part of France so appealing.

For those who enjoy exploring further afield, Toulouse, the Pyrénées and the Spanish border are all within an hour's reach for day trips, giving you the chance to combine a peaceful countryside holiday with some wonderful adventures.

A PLACE TO MAKE MEMORIES TOGETHER

What makes Château de la Coutère special is the combination of space, seclusion and the freedom to enjoy your holiday exactly as you wish.

Some guests spend almost their entire stay at the château, relaxing beside the pool, enjoying family meals and exploring the grounds. Others head out every day to discover the surrounding countryside, markets, lakes and attractions.

There's no need to plan every moment. Enjoy slow mornings with fresh croissants, afternoons in the sunshine and evenings around the table with the people who matter most.

Whether you're bringing the whole family together, celebrating a special occasion or simply escaping to the French countryside with friends, Château de la Coutère offers a truly memorable place to spend time together.

Wonderful chateau in beautiful location

We spent a week at the chateau sharing with friends and had a brilliant time. The owners Leanne and Julian were incredibly friendly and helpful, without being intrusive, and on hand with information and help if we needed it. The chateau itself has been beautifully restored, with large, comfortable bedrooms and living spaces. Outside the pool area and terrace were lovely with plenty of space to play football and frisbee. There is also a river and waterfall on the grounds within 10 minutes walk which was a wonderful bonus. Small village also 10 mins walking with boulongerie. Would definitely recommend.
