I took my 2 kids to Hocking Hills for a long weekend on fall break. We lucked out with this location. Easy access to the state park and main attractions in the area.
House was clean, spacious and perfect for the 3 of us. Hot tub and deck were nice bonus. Owner was very responsive to any questions I had regarding the check in process.
We would definitely recommend this place for any couple or family planning a trip to Hocking Hills at a reasonable price.
I would gladly stay here again.
Thanks!!
We stayed for 4 days and loved our experience . It was clean and had starters of everything needed, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper.
Reaching the host was easy. She had fast respond times and very polite.
We will definitely be back.
The space accommodated our family well! 2 adults and 3 kids.
We loved everything about the space and location. Beds were very comfortable and bathroom was very clean. Hot tub was awesome. A-frame style is adorable!! We had a cheese board night so we loved all of the extra stuff in the kitchen and the serving window. Kind of a huge ladybug infestation outside in the afternoons but that’s not really the property owners fault, just a fact of the weather and area. Just hard to keep them from getting inside.
My boyfriend and our son stayed here 3 nights and everything was better then expected. It was the perfect size for all of us. We cooked meals every night in the kitchen the only thing I needed to bring was messing cups/spoons. The hot tub was just what we needed. We had a fire out front the last night and it was perfect for us. The only issue we saw was the amount of lady bugs in the cabin. It didn’t bother us so we just ignored them thinking it’s just a lucky spot. All in all the cabin made me want to buy it and move in and I would definitely recommend it for small ish families. Perfect little Christmas stay after a busy rushing holiday season.
The A frame was clean and the perfect size for our family of 4. The bed on the main floor was comfortable, but firm—which was perfect for me. The bed in the loft was cozy and soft. The futon was somewhere in between. There was a bed for every preference. The kitchen had everything we needed. The water fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom were nicer than the ones in my own house. We did bring our own water, per the host’s recommendation, but used the well water for coffee and cooking with no issues. The only issue with the rental has more to do with past renters than the hosts (dirty coffee mugs, damage to hot tub lid, etc.). Communication was timely and helpful. We would definitely stay again.
We came to this house as a short family getaway during Spring Break. We were hesitant about booking this house due to some of the pictures, a couple of the reviews, and the location from things. But we were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The location of the house we felt was better than the time we were only minutes from Old Man's Cave and hikes like that. It is easy to get to and from highway 33 and to any other place you want to see. The house has been updated from many of the pictures. It does have a larger TV then in the pictures and the hot tube deck area is trimmed and clean. The wood on the deck could still be updated but if you bring sandals or something it is not bad at all. The futon was repositioned upstairs which would not be a problem but made some issues with expectation about sleeping arrangements. An improvement that is NEEDED is more hooks to hang things like hot tub towels, bath towels, coats, etc. There really is no place to do that so you have to be creative. We had not issue at all with beetles or really any other bugs like that.
The host is easy to get a hold of and supplied anything that we were short of or had concerns about. It really was a wonderful stay and would come back. Thanks for the great memories!
My mother and I stayed to attend my son’s college graduation. I do short-term rentals 1-2 times a year, I gut/rehab houses and I travel outside the country staying in hostels – so my expectations are realistic. Inside, it is smaller than it appears in the photos, and some of the furniture/arrangement is different. The upstairs isn’t very usable for an adult. The stairs to the second bed are steep and not very deep. I’m only 5’3” and at the top of the stairs, and I had to bend over significantly – almost touch the carpet – to actually get into the room. I couldn’t stand upright beside the bed. The kitchen is so narrow that one normal-sized person can barely walk in it. On top of the design, all of the dishes are in older bottom cabinets practically on the floor, some of the furniture was pretty beat up and the dishes were weird random. Normally tolerable. On the positive side, it was clean and communication about arrival/check in was good. The ground floor back bedroom is good sized with no usability issues. The bath has been redone since the photos and was nice. The deck was good sized and the hot tub seemed ok, although the wood on the deck needs some serious attention. Location was good. The manager did reach out via VRBO to check in – but I didn’t reply because there was nothing that could be fixed. It’s not like we just needed more toilet paper. For an average of $300/night total, I expected two bedrooms suitable for adults and a significantly more usable kitchen.

Property needs TLC
Rented property with my 2 daughters first week of October this year. Pros: Hostess was quick to answer any questions or concerns we had. We ended up leaving a day early and I was refunded my money for the last night even though wasnt expecting it. Is close to a lot of the hocking hills hiking and scenic sights. CONS: When we arrived at property noticed right away grass around property was overgrown. Walking in was much smaller than pics on sight depict. Kitchen extremely small with limited space to cook or move around. Noticed lots of mice droppings in cabinets and drawers. Stove is pretty beat up and not clean at all. Living room has outdated and not comfortable furniture. Chair to table fell apart just by pulling it out to sit down. Upstairs bed is situated at top of steep stairs that you have to duck to avoid hitting head. Bathroom on site says has jacuzzi tub which it does not have. Back bedroom has queen bed that is not comfortable at all with a bag of what i assume was dirty bedding stuffed underneath it. The outside deck is very old with holes in some places which could be a hazard. The railing all around deck is extremely overgrown and vining onto floor of deck. Another tripping hazard. There was more but to make a long story short. Was not worth the 192.00 a night. With some much needed upkeep could be a nice place. Would not reccomend as is.
We had a fantastic stay at the Red Roost! The A-frame design is so charming and made for such a cozy weekend getaway. The highlight was definitely the new hot tub—it was clean, easy to use, and perfect for relaxing under the stars. The host was very responsive and made the check-in process seamless. If you're looking for a peaceful spot near Hocking Hills, this is it. Would definitely stay here again!
Cabin was overall near perfect for a quick weekend getaway. Some things could use some updating but nothing that interfered with the stay. Would stay again.
This was the perfect cabin for a few night get away. We stayed here with our children and it was perfect. The kitchen was a little tight but for one person to be in there it was just fine and had everything we needed to cook each night. Very close to some of the awesome sites at hocking hills, Rock House was one of my favorite places to see. The yard was great and big had lots of room for the kids to run around and throw the football. The firepit and hottub were both huge hits.
It was a little tired and run down, needed some repairs outside. The water in the shower was not even warm. It was nice and clean. I would probably try to find something a little nicer next time but it wasn't bad.

Need better attention to cleanliness and maintenance
Our stay was very relaxing and fun, especially thanks to the wonderful hot tub, it was perfect! We really enjoyed the house overall, but there were a few cleanliness and maintenance issues that affected our experience:The window frames throughout the house were filled with dead bugs and dirt. Two bedroom windows were missing mosquito screens. Although they were delivered the next day upon request, one screen was too small and didn’t fully cover the window. The blinds in the upstairs bedroom were broken. The bathroom sink was clogged with dirt, and we had to unclog it ourselves. The kitchen countertop was sticky and hadn't been properly cleaned. With better attention to cleanliness and maintenance, our overall impression would have been significantly improved.
High marks for how clean the property was as well as extremely quick response for the property owner when we had a question. It was charming and comfortably fit 3 adults. We didn’t originally choose the property for the hot tub but after a long day of hiking it was a great bonus.
The place was nice. There were a few cosmetic damages already there but nothing that affected our stay. The hot tub was in a difficult spot to get the lid back on and the vines were kind of overgrown on the porch but the vines offered privacy with the hot tub. They had a ton of dvds and everything in the kitchen that you would need to cook. Overall we had a really nice time.
