Worth it.
The upgraded room is worth it, more space, a little more spacious bathroom. Walking distance to beach and everythung.

The room itself was stark and bland, there was a lovely view of the dumpster, not a single painting or art in the room. The bathroom was not clean and was falling apart.

Very different from photos, terrible views
Definitely very different to photos. View was AWFUL and people were dropping brownwater from the windows from the buildings. It looked old and not cared for. There was no option to choose another view, and you get stuvk looking at a wall from the window. I was glad i only stayed for a night.

Just a room. 2 blocks from the beach.
Keep in mind that the city of Rio is 15-20 years past it's prime. Hotel Savoy, like most others, is in dire need of renovation. Additionally, it seems that Brazil was never exactly known for artisans. "Finishing" seems to be a foreign concept. Gaps in trim on walls, counters and the like are pretty normal, even in "luxury" accommodations. This hotel, however, is not luxurious. With that said, the room with a double bed is tiny. The bed barely fits. The walls are so thin you can literally hear your neighbors every word. The "courtyard" view was more of an alley. The walls near the AC vents were painted black, which, I can only assume was done to mask a mold or mildew problem. The bathroom was small as well. The good. Service was very good. From check-in (They let me check in around 11), luggage storage, room service and any issues were dealt with quickly and politely. The water pressure in the shower was great. The hotel is 2 blocks from the beach. The breakfast buffet was decent. The AC worked. The rooms have a mini-fridge. Overall, it's fair. If you're looking for a room near the beach at a reasonable price this hotel might be right for you. It's a room, not much more.

Stay away from this place. Not only our money was stolen from our room, but the manager treated my husband and I like WE WERE THE CRIMINALS. After acting like our story was made up, having security open up our luggage and look for the money everywhere in the room (which wasn't found, of course) the manager told us they are not responsible for any missing items or money. Our vacation was completely ruined by this experience.

My favorite hotel of the four I stayed at recently
This was the fourth hotel I stayed at on my recent trip and it ended up being my favorite. I wanted to try a lot of different hotels and not get stuck at one I hated for the entire time. Of the other three, one other one was in Copa, and the other two were in centro. I was very familiar with this area and thoroughly enjoyed everything I needed being right outside the hotel within a block. Grocery store, bank, Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks, Dominoes and a couple of self serve restaurants within two blocks. The morning breakfast was pretty standard but I have no complaints. I ended up with a very large king size bed in what was supposed to be a standard room that I got at the last minute at a great rate. The elevators in this hotel all worked great (I was on the 6th floor). There was no noise issue at all from Nossa Senora Avenue outside. Also, one of two hotels I stayed at that actually had central air. They stored my luggage in the back for a few hours until I left for the airport. This will definitely be on my list of preferred hotels next time and I may even book the entire 3 week trip at this particular place since now I know what to expect.

Overall this hotel is good and close to all happenings, few mins walk tot he beach. But what I dislike or not understand is the hotel front desk staff refused to let one of my visitor to my room the next day (even refused to register him), saying that the hotel rules does not allow the customers to bring their visitors to their room but could meet the visitors at the lobby. I checked the website o the hotel and found no where this rules is stated or mentioned. Can the hotel show to me the rule? At last, I have to pay extra to get my friend stay with me in my room which for me is a little upset. The person at the front desk at that evening was rude and saying that "I cannot allow your visitor up". So, if anyone of you wanna bring your frens or visitors to your room, this is definitely not the hotel to stay.

Very comfortable hotel
Hotel is in the best location, beach, restaurants, shopping. Rooms are spacious and bright. Bed and pillows are extreamly comfortable. Spotless clean. Reception is very helpful. Coffee is very good and choice for breakfast normal.

My Opinions
Not a good experience this time. Killed two roaches one after check-in and one at check-out.. One positive note the breakfast was top of the line 10 on a scale of 5.. Air Conditioning needs serious upgrades. Sorry after this stay I cant come back or recommend to others..

Well appointed and located budget hotel
This hotel is part of the othon hotels. Not one of their luxury hotels but very good . Well located to the beachs both copacabana and ipanema. I chose this hotel for the price during carnival week as the luxury hotels facing the beach (my usual preference) were far overpriced due to carnival week. Despite those comments I would definitely stay here again.

All went pretty good. Room was fairly small but OK. We had one issue with a pre-arranged cab through the hotel, but they were quick to remedy it. Nice breakfast included, great location near Copacabana Beach.

Stay somewhere else.
It was rubbish. They displayed photos on the website of a nearby much more up market Orthon Hotel, with a roof top pool and other luxurious features, as if they were located at this one. It was a very basic hotel nothing like three and a half stars would give the impression, and for that it was ridiculously overpriced. The electricity power point with a multi nationality plug capability packed up during my stay but despite my pointing it out at reception it wasn't fixed while I was there. Fortunately I wasn't there long.

Wouldn't advise staying at this hotel
I would have scored the hotel a lot higher because it was clean and the beds were comfortable. However the hotel "made a mistake" with the bill and then charged us extra even though I had already paid up. Was a really disappointing end to an otherwise pleasant stay. Also there is a hotel right next door part of the same chain with a swimming pool but guests are not allowed access to it from this hotel.

Room was comfortable during stay lobby area was under construction and elevator service was sketchy as one was not working regularly. Also saw a roach in my bathroom fortunately it was only one!
