Welcome to Walden! A place that combines the beauty of the natural world with the warmth of a modern cabin. Located on 50 acres or protected land along the historic Shenandoah River, Walden offers one of the most spectacular retreats in the valley.

Beautiful Place
Instead of a 10/10 we would give a 20/10. It is more beautiful, more wide, more lovely than pictures can show. The home is clean, one level so easy to get around. Most places put in dim lights so it's hard to see when cooking etc., this has so many windows during the day you need no lights. At night they have great lighting. The area by the river is so private and park like setting. Just can't say enough about this beautiful place and the owner Derek who made things easier all the way around. Thank you.

Awesome property for visiting Shenandoah NP and Luray
We really enjoyed the privacy and the property met all of our expectations. Even though we didn't spend as much time at Walden as we would have liked, it was a great place to start and finish each day. We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and the grill for preparing meals and we also enjoyed the restful evenings in the hot tub.

For Vrbo kept making me get codes to send any type of message. It would send it to my email which then would take me out of the message box. Has to have laptop and cell phone to make it work. Which I don’t always. ( I know who does). For the place it was very nice. Absolutely loved the sycamore tree down at the river. It was the most amazing tree I seen in a long time. The bark looked like an artist came in and painted silver camouflage patches on the limbs. Setting on the porch and watching the deer from a distance…taking our chairs and setting in the river laughing and having a grand time. It was a much needed relaxing weekend. Even though we don’t live far I don’t have that tree or the river and can see us coming back. Thank you.

Walden - You Are Amazing!
My husband and I decided to visit the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia for the first time, and we booked Walden. What a gem! The communication with Derek was fantastic and timely, and the cabin was exactly as described. The property was gorgeous, with lots of time spent riverside and enjoying the firepit and hot tub after a long day hiking on the Skyline Drive. It was a much needed and most relaxing stay, and our 4-year-old Border Collie absolutely LOVED watching the deer, bunnies and geese at the river. We stayed for 5 days, but could have stayed a month! We will definitely return some day and appreciate the hospitality (and cookies) and memories that we made at Walden!

fourth return to Walden
I first stayed at the Walden cabin in December 2020, and it was just magical in the snow. I returned in 2021, 2022 and now in 2023. I like the chill and quiet of December for each trip. My dog and I love our thrice-daily walks to the river, and the hot tub is so relaxing before bed, breathing in the 35 degree air while poaching in the 100 degree water. And the millions of stars to be seen, far from the city lights. The cabin is just perfect for me. Spotlessly clean and nicely laid out. The kitchen could use a few more Corningware-type casseroles for heating up leftovers, though. Derek was immediately responsive when I had trouble negotiating the TV settings or with a few other questions, as he has been in the past. Looking forward to hopefully returning in December 2024!

I surprised my wife for our anniversary and I have to say it was everything I was looking for. Cabin was very clean, updated and well maintained. It was secluded with a beautiful mountain view with easy access to Rt340. If your looking for a romantic getaway I definitely recommend the Walden Cabin.

Anniversary Bliss
We’ve been visiting the Shenandoah Valley for our anniversary for many years now and this was by far our favorite place to stay. It was clean, appeared freshly painted, furniture was in excellent condition, and the decor matched the vibe of the house/property without being excessive. The view and privacy awarded by the property allowed us to escape our responsibilities and fully relax and enjoy our time together. We will definitely be looking to book this cabin again on our next visit!

40th anniversary
My wife and I booked the Walden cabin for our 40th anniversary. Our first reaction on entering the cabin was "WOW"! The cabin is very nice, nicely decorated and well equipped. The peace and quiet we enjoyed there was welcome. A short walk to the river there are chairs where we sat and reminisced about our lives and talked about future plans while the river flowed past provided much serenity. The hot tub is also a very nice touch. Looking out over the fields where we saw several deer. The bed is comfortable and provided a good night's sleep. This is one cabin that we would love to return to in the near future. Our thanks to Derek and Olga for making our stay one to remember for a long time. David and Carol S.

Walden is a peaceful sanctuary ideally located between Front Royal and Luray, and minutes to Shenandoah NP…54 riverfront acres provided seclusion and privacy, along with beautiful views. Remember to bring bedding and towels… we were surprised by this omission, but rectified at the local Walmart in Luray… Overall, a wonderful getaway on the Shenandoah Valley

Amazing location to relax and unwind.
Great spot to take your dogs for a walk and unwind by the river. Perfectly located between Lurray & Front Royal. Cabin has everything you need to relax and get away from life for a bit. Property is clean, well maintained, and help is only a message away if you should need assistance. They even have a river walk set up for the guests to help you unwind and enjoy the views along the Shenandoah river. In my opinion this property deserves more than 5 stars!

Beautiful Birthday Get-a-way!
My husband and I rented Walden for my birthday weekend. It was absolutely amazing! It was clean, quiet and so peaceful! We ate meals on the screened in porch, enjoyed the hot tub and spent a lot of time down at the river. The walk down to the river was beautiful! Love this place & can't wait to go back!!!
