"This is my second time in Tortuguero but my first at Mawamba. I’d seen the beautiful grounds before and wanted to experience it in person, This is a nature lovers paradise! The grounds are beautifully maintained with native plants, lots of walking trails which are inviting to so much wildlife including toucans, orenpendula, parrots, macaws, red eyed tree frogs and so much more. Tortuguero National Park is a short walk away and I went there often. But I love the tours that Mawamba offers, kayak tours, birding tours, canal tours and an enjoyable floating restaurant. Rather than hop around all over Costa Rica, I spent nearly a week, and I’m glad I did. The staff is very accommodating, the food is good and the guides area amazingly skilled in the history of the area, the natural heritage and spotting wildlife. I’m very impressed and I will definitely return. "

"The property is starting to show its age and the damp environment is taking a bit of a toll. There could have been more food choices. The walkways around the property are fabulous."

"Really authentic place. Beautiful grounds, we saw lots of birds here, and big iguanas. The swimming pool is beautiful and relaxing. Comfy rooms. Make sure to book your tours from here. We booked our turtle tour and canoe tour from here. Our turtle guide is miss Nori from the hotel. She is beyond amazing! She is local, so knowledgeable and does patrols along the beach to protect the turtles. Really admirable!"

"This is a great stopover hotel if you are travelling south. The food and service is good and they are trying really hard to build a business. Would definitely go back. "
