Cozy lakefront chalet with cedar hot tub + stunning lake views
If you're looking for that quintessential "cabin experience" in Minnesota, our Pine Tree Play Chalet won't disappoint. It's a hand-crafted, rustic pine cabin located just steps from the gorgeous waters of crystal-clear Lake Washburn. With a small and efficient layout, the chalet has 3 bedrooms (one on the main, two in the loft) and sleeps 6 people. The main room has ample seating with two separate seating areas and a round dining table for meals or playing cards.
The cabin is ideal for a family get-away or a couple searching for a quiet place to read, to write, or to just take in the incredible vista of the lake itself—from the wall of glass, the gracious front deck, the wood-fired hot tub, or from the dock. The chalet is 10 minutes north of Outing, 20 minutes south of Remer, and 30 minutes to Crosslake or Crosby.
Pine Tree Chalet rests on 12 acres of forested wilderness with 300 feet of private lakeshore and a panoramic vista. The cabin is perched on the north basin of Lake Washburn, a 1,600-acre lake with maximum depths of 120 feet, which make for silky waters perfect for swimming and fishing. You'll hear no traffic noise from this peaceful location since it's located three miles off the main road.
The property is nestled among centuries-old Norway reds and white pines, and has ample space for parking an RV or your parties ATV and trailers. Enjoy the secluded frontage, listen to the waves lap the dock, or swim in the clear waters where the average temperature ranges from 75-80 degrees. The property features a wood-fired, cedar hot tub and a large fire pit next to the lake. We'll provide the wood for roasting marshmallows and making s'mores!
After a day on the lake fishing and swimming, or mountain bike riding the iron-rich Cuyuna trails, or motoring the hundreds of miles of ATV trails, take a shower and enjoy a cocktail and supper on the generous front deck. We provide the charcoal and the grill, a cozy kitchen, and all the extra ingredients and spices you may have forgotten. Build a fire in the woodburning fireplace or light a fire on the shore in the twilight hours and take in the constellation of stars. The chalet is equipped with high-speed, fiber optic Internet service if you'd prefer to stream a movie (we've got most all the major streaming services for you).
Pine Tree Chalet was hand-built by the previous owner in 1972, individually constructing the arching splines with a form of his own making. The loft has two bedrooms with bunk beds in each room, and a space our kids use for gaming, reading, or yes, watching TikTok videos.
Pine Tree Play Chalet is a relaxing experience crafted to get away from hectic world—with plenty of board games, lawn games, and books—but, like you, we sometimes need to work remotely so fiber optic Internet (100 Mbps upload/download) allows for high-quality, reliable Zoom calls and uninterrupted streaming during movie nights or asking Alexa to stream your favorite music.
Our backlot is 10 acres of pristine forest, which offers a peaceful buffer. Close to areas like Crosslake (golfing / shopping / eating), Crosby (Cuyuna mountain bike trails / craft breweries), and Walker (walleye fishing / lively town / shopping), our Pine Tree Play Chalet is a remote getaway from a hectic life.

We had an amazing time at the cabin! We were able to take advantage of the canoe and kayaks, hot tub, cozy fire place and the dock. It was the perfect cabin experience.
Our family of four had a great 4th of July at the Chalet. We kayaked, swam, fished, camp-fired (s’mored!) and even enjoyed the wood-burning hot tub on our last day. We made a lot of great memories and truly enjoyed our stay. Trent was very helpful and always in touch when we had questions.
We had a great time at the chalet on Lake Washburn. It was the perfect place to spend time together and not worry about the stress of our everyday lives: a true vacation! It was peaceful, quiet, well-kept, comfortable, and fun!
The property was beautiful and tucked away in a very quiet location. Lake is beautiful and the cabin is cozy. Great place to go and just relax and get away from the city life.
The property offers incredible lake views, with thoughtfully curated interior design elements that add to its charm. The wood-burning hot tub was a unique highlight, and the house was clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. The hosts were responsive and accommodating, and we’d happily stay again!
Trent goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. Our family enjoyed fishing off the dock and playing in the lake with the kayaks and pad. We created some great memories despite staying just a few days.
Had a great family vacation! Beautiful view from the deck for the morning coffee, great night fishing, and a nice large lake making room for tubing with the kids! Loved the extra lake toys supplied and we loved trying out the hot tub.
Thanks for a great stay where we were able to make great family memories!
We had an amazing time at the chalet! I don’t think I’ve ever received better customer service than I did with Trent, the property owner! Everything was impeccably clean, quiet, and serene! My family and I adored the wood-burning hot tub and spent a day out canoeing and kayaking on the lake… Even found a fun sandbar to fish with the kids! We would definitely come back again!
Family of 4 + mother in law spent 5 days at this fantastic cabin! We loved all the place had to offer. Fishing is great on this lake. Loved the hot tub! Perfect combination of rustic with modern conveniences. I would highly recommend and hope to return in the future.
Our family enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful vacation on Lake Washburn. The chalet was cozy, clean, comfortable and well stocked with anything we could need. We took full advantage of the kayaks that were available and enjoyed fishing and hanging out on the dock. Communication with the host was excellent and will definitely be back.
Everything was as expected and more. Trent was a great host and very responsive leading up to and during our stay - even bringing fresh towels half way through our stay. True cabin on the lake. Semi-private with good neighbors not too close as well.
Our family of five enjoyed our stay so much, between the hot tub (the kids spent hours in) the lake, the water toys, fishing and evening bonfires this was a perfect place. The house is cozy, clean and well stocked. Recommend renting the boat as an added bonus, the local sandbars we’re fun to stop at and the lake is large and quiet. Owner was great to work with. Bunk beds are on the smaller side. Great place!
Trent was the perfect host for communication, he really made sure we had everything we needed. The chalet is such a cozy and also just interesting MN cabin to stay at. It’s also quite nicely furnished and well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed, and there were many activities for outside. But what really made this a standout place was the wood fired hot tub. It really works, you just need some patience and maybe a little bit of skill to build a fire. My family had an excellent stay.
Property was clean and in a beautiful location. Host was attentive and kind. We very much enjoyed our stay. The kids loved swimming in the lake. Sitting on the deck each morning and evening was so relaxing. The accommodations are modest compared to some, but they were perfect for what we needed and actually helped us to keep it simple and relax. Thank you Trent for the wonderful week!
My family and I had a great relaxing few days here. Trent was a great host. At check-in he made sure to go over the property with me and made recommendations for best places to take the boat out to find swimming spots for the kids. The cedar hot tub that overlooks the lake was a great little bonus. We loved sitting on the deck in the evening listening to the loons (there are quite a few pair on the lake it seems). The cabin itself is quaint and had a typical 'up north' feel to it. Very relaxing
The view and comfortable waters are as advertised at this uniquely built cabin. We were there from Mon-Thurs and, while there are numerous homes around all parts of the lake, we felt like we had the lake nearly to ourselves. We loved how much stuff we didn't have to bring-kayaks, towels, kitchen supplies-since they were provided by the owner. The host was attentive and checked in with us by phone. The nearby towns don't offer much in the way of entertainment outside of lakeside burger joints, but the mountain bike trails in Crosby/Ironton are first-class fun.
We were lucky enough to snag this cabin last minute for Memorial Weekend. What a great rental! It has a true cabin feel with so many thoughtful touches! First off, it's clean. There is a lived in vibe without being "lived in" like some cabins. Upon check in, the owner Trent and his son stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed and answer any questions. Everything was set up for a very easy stay! From the fire pit being prepped for our first fire to the use of the kayaks and boats. The lake is clean and not crazy busy. We were even able to reel in a couple large walleye! We were able to find many 4-wheeling/atv trails near by and one is accessible right from the cabin! The wood burning hot tub was a nice addition, even our teenage kids enjoyed the fun factor of it!This truly is the perfect cabin for a weekend (or longer!) getaway and the hosts are great!
Our stay at the Chalet was perfect for my wife and I. We spent four days there and for two of those days we never left the chalet as we just relaxed, watched movies, fished from the dock (caught four different species of fish within an hour) and the best part of all was enjoyed the wood fired cedar hot tub. My wife likes a “hot” hot tub and needless to say we burned up a little bit of Trent’s firewood using it. Trent was great to work with from beginning to end. We actually got to meet Trent and his son when we arrived at the property which was great. Trent also checked in on us the second day to make sure all was going well with our stay. The chalet has a lot of character and was perfect for the two of us. The view of the lake was enjoyable both during the day and evening. If the opportunity ever presents itself again, we would definitely stay at the chalet and/or rent again from Trent. Thanks again Trent!!!
We had a great time at this cabin. Everyone loved the hot tub and we were able to use the boat to go out fishing and took the canoe to the sand bar for swimming.
We had a wonderful long weekend with family. The chalet was cozy, but had ample space at the same time. Check in was easy, and the kitchen had just what we needed. We all loved sitting on the deck overlooking the water.
