Birds and Bears - In Town - On The River w/Fishing Spot - Large Parties - Pet Fr
Fish right off the 80' back porch if you have a good casting arm. Surrounded by quaking aspens and conifers, this spacious, custom-decorated luxury home sleeps 16 in individually themed rooms. The upstairs features an open loft for kids or singles in 4 twin beds (one is a trundle) with decor that showcases mother bears and cute cubs. The large wolf room, also upstairs, sleeps 2 in a king bed. The third upstairs bedroom, located over the garage, sleeps 4 -- two in a new king bed and 2 in a queen sleeper. This huge room, with its own special amenities, includes a sitting area, a moveable privacy screen, 2 large closets, and a gas log fireplace; while the decor focuses on bears and other wildlife. All 3 upstairs bedrooms overlook the river directly below. A 4th bedroom downstairs sleeps 4 in a king bed and queen sleeper; the decor features a Pendleton Indian blanket spread with outdoor scenes and a collection of crosses over the headboard. All three bedrooms provide flat-screen tvs with DirecTV. The loft also has a TV suitable for hooking up game consoles. Downstairs you will find a well-stocked kitchen (including spices), dining area, large family room with Indian decor surrounding the wood-burning fireplace, queen sleeper sofa, recliner, TV, stereo system, vaulted ceiling, and a large bookshelf full of books and cute knick-knacks. A front sun porch with floor to ceiling windows provides the perfect place to watch the birds and other wildlife. The banquet-sized back porch not only hosts a large charcoal grill but also two long picnic tables, a round glass-topped table, a swing, bird feeders (bring your own birdseed!), and a wood rack. A small yard off the elevated porch gives you access to the river which has just been cleaned up and stabilized thanks to a grant from the state and the city. Other special amenities for you to enjoy include a Jacuzzi tub featuring a rain shower head, a full-sized laundry room with washer, dryer, and storage shelves, and a vacant lot next door where kids can use up their excess energy. Open the windows to enjoy the fresh clean mountain air and the sounds of the river as you drift off to sleep on luxury linens. Good but not great
Stayed 4 days. River in back. Cob webs and dust throughout. Bring your own cleaning supplies if that is important to you. Nice back patio with plenty of seating.
Location! Our favorite place on the property was on the back deck watching the river. We saw lots of wildlife and caught a few fish. It's just a couple of minutes from down from the shopping and dining in Red River.
The house needs a lot of fixing and updating especially the bathrooms (exposed wall studs, broken tile, etc) and the back door has the panel warped to the point that it is extremely difficult to open/close. The front of the property needs some care as well as the power meter stand is almost falling over…. Not the greatest place to stay!
Check in was easy and convenient. The house was beautiful, however was not clean. You couldn't look out the window's because the cobwebs all over the back deck walls and outside windows. There was a dried bar of soap on upstairs bathroom sink that had been used, and on our nightstand table was a dried up skoal bandit that someone took out of their mouth during a previous stay.
This home was perfect for our two large families (15 people total). Our children played in the creek (just off the back porch) most of the day each day. Ducks and settler's jays crowded around for the birdseed and bread that we fed them. The bedrooms are very spacious, and there were plenty of places to sleep. The only (minor) downside was that we often had a line of people waiting for the 2 bathrooms.
The only thing I would suggest is having access to a shovel because it was hard getting up the driveway with all the snow that we got. Very family oriented!! Loved it!!!
I had reserved the birds and bears cabin through VRBO website. Check in time was 4pm NM time. When we got there around 5 NM time they couldn't find our reservation. The website had double booked the cabin and another family was already there. The manager was amazing and accommodated our big group on another rental property. Next time I will use the real estate company to book instead of the VRBO website.

The house is lovely, bedrooms are great but the shower upstairs is horrible
We gave our kids this trip for Christmas so had our kids and grandkids of which r 4girls who have hair to their waist. Bathing is very important but became an impossible task due to either cold water or squalding hot.
Came to fix 1st time and still didn’t work so called back and was told it is kinda a PICKLE to work. Really.
Three plumbers came to fix the next day @ 4 pm. Stayed for about an hour according to my husband. Got ready to take showers and guess what still a Pickle to run. Thank The Good Lord no one got burned.
Had a wonderful time skiing in Red River along with Tubing. Hopefully we weren’t too smelly due to shower problems.
Was hoping to find a new place to stay in Red River but Will never stay @ this property again.

A nicely laid out, spacious home with separate spaces as well as communal areas.
Our family enjoyed the stay at Birds and Bears. The separation of space for sleeping and the large accommodating, fireplace and open living spaces were great for my family of 12. The location was a short ride to town or a 10 minute walk. There are a few maintenance issues with the upstairs bathroom shower faucet causing water temperature challenges and is in need of replacing, not enough supplies on hand such as trash bags and toilet paper was frustrating, the heating grate in the hallway was hot to the touch and made for challenges for our small grandchildren, but overall the house was great and I will reserve again for our next family ski trip! Additionally, I may plan a warm weather vacation to Red River as well!
