"Difficult to find in the dark
Beds uncomfortable with small rooms, nowhere to open a case
No instructions for boiler or hot water. When we did work out the boiler, only 2 of us had a shower because the water was too hot and dangerous, we couldn’t get it any colder the temperature control in the shower did nothing.
The bathroom was musty and grimy and like a caravan size pod. "

"Cheddar and the surrounding area is such a lovely part of the country and the Gatehouse matched that. The bed was large and very comfortable, the lounge perfect for snuggling away the evenings and the shower particuarly good! Parking also could not have been easier. Do note though, a lot of the roads in the area are narrow and twisty without footpaths so a small car is preferable and beware when walking them."

"It's not a bad place.
But filthy carpets were the main disappointment & filthy smoke butts outside the main door up stairs.
Was there for 3 days, not once did I see anybody do any cleaning or replenish towels or tea & coffee.
That's why it wasn't value for money.
The owner should put more effort into the place, instead of just taking the money."

"Enjoyed our stay here. Room was nice and good spread for breakfast. Enjoyed the gym facilities as well and they have a table tennis table outside too on the roof terrace."
"We stayed two nights on the first morning our bedroom was cleaned while we were at breakfast. Our suitcases were carried up the stairs to the reception area and back down again when we left.
We were concerned because before we arrived and after booking we discovered car parking was not guaranteed and though we were lucky this time we are not sure if we would risk it again. However when we phoned to question this the lovely lady at reception did offer to move her car if necessary.
We do feel that the Hotel.com website should have mentioned the stairs and the car parking.
The restaurant was lovely with beautiful views. We did not eat in the restaurant apart from breakfast. We felt the menu a bit limited for myself, vegetarian and no tomatoes. The breakfast was a bit disappointing but that was my fault as I should have noticed that the advert said continental breakfast available. So there was yoghurt, fruit juice, croissants, cereal, toast, ham and hard boiled eggs, some unappetising apples and oranges,"
"It’s a good answer if you have an impossibly early flight like we did. We did the twilight check in the night before as it’s a steep walk for 7-10 minutes in the open to the terminal. We had babies and toddlers and three large suitcases in pouring rain at 4.30 am. Not fun. They should have some kind of golf cart shuttle service to take people to the terminal - we would have happily paid for it"
"I will really impressed with this hotel and it was good value for money. Loved that it had AC, you can check-in and order food and drinks 24/7. Very centrally located. Great place to stay I definitely recommend it!"
"We arrived early and the room was ready. Staff were extremely helpful with local information.
It is a lovely setting overlooking a golf course, and was reasonably convenient for going to Downside Abbey, which was The reason for our visit.
Local bus service to Bath or Wells, and we went to Midsommer Norton. Ideally best to have your own car."
"The main pro of this hotel is its location. Less than a 2 min walk to the water front, theatre, bars and restaurants. The location is fantastic. The hotel is clean, tidy and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a car park, £20 for 24hrs which for Bristol, is good value. PARKING NEEDS TO BE BOOKED WITH THE HOTEL IN ADVANCE - THERE ARE ONLY LIMITED SPACES. Dont try to message them through this app - I tried it and didn’t get a response. Just call the hotel direct.
The room is clean and adequate - the other everything you need, but it was fairly empty and basic. It didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor you’d expect from the location, building and reception area. Not really an issue for me, but worth noting.
Brekfast was good - the only thing I will comment on is that I asked once of the staff about the ingredients in the sausage (gluten allergy). She said it was gluten free, but then another member of staff overheard and said it wasn’t….. they confirmed in the kitchen that they were gluten free (which was great), but as someone with a food allergy, it doesn’t fill me with confidence when two members of staff say something different. Obviously this won’t be an issue to most people, but one thing from having an allergy is that you need to be confident in what you’re being told - because it could spoil a trip away. Just a small point that I think management could raise with staff - make them aware of ingredients so they can inform customers confidently and correctl"
