"Disappointing. While the hotel is in the process of being extended and refurbished, that did not include the room we stayed in which although spacious and clean was in need of an update. The hanging space and vanity were tiny, especially for such a large room. Eating out options at American River for dinner are extremely limited. Dinner at the hotel was expensive and service not to standard. While the staff were unfailingly polite, helpful and doing their best they were under resourced for the workload. Apparently, a tour bus group had checked in for that night. "

"We live in hotels now and we can honestly say that this is one of the nicest places we've stayed in this entire year. Loved the architecturally designed space, great views of the sea, and the proximity of native wildlife. It was quiet and relaxing to stay here. The host was attentive without being obtrusive and gave us several suggestions about where to eat and what to see. Highest of recommendations -- a real jewel."

"Easy communication made the stay very easy and enjoyable. All you needed was to supply what you needed to cook or just eat and everything else was there. Easy access and very comfortable. If you wanted to go out for a meal just be aware you are limited Monday nights as most places are closed. We recommend The Shed as it’s run by volunteers and the locals, Great prices and Great food. Highly recommend to base yourself here if your looking for an enjoyable stay"

"Staying in this cute cabin was one of the highlights of our trip. It had everything we needed and was super comfortable. Nice area to sit outside. Very clean and well decorated. The "fish" theme was carried throughout including fish shaped cookies without being "kitschy" or over-the-top. All of the little touches were impressive, including local brochures in a tackle box. Lovely garden area with very cute wallabies at night. You share a wall with other guests but everyone was quiet in evening. Appreciated ceiling fans, nespresso maker with milk and communication with host. Super easy check in and check out. We are so glad we came to Kangaroo Island and would definitely recommend staying here."

"Nature's Embrace - Pelican cabin was a perfect chocie for our family holiday. The house itself was clean and well provisioned with linen, towels, salt/pepper/oil and small appliances for convenience. Our stay was made very comfortable by the air conditioning and very comfortable beds. The extra convenience of having wifi, a smart tv, board games and even wireless charging stations made the stay extra pleasant. Location was perfect! Close to Penneshaw and fairly centrally locates in the middle of the island so Kingscote and Vivonne Bay were still fairly close. And loved sharing the space with some wild locals who enjoyed lounging outside our cabin and raiding the bins. Our host Liam was great with communication and made sure to check in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay complete. Couldnt have wished for more. "
