Before the 20th century, visitors to Marseilledid not come for its beaches. In fact, prior to a coastal construction projectin the 1970s, designed to give locals access to beaches, Prado Beach did notexist. On hot summer days, hire equipment andexplore the water on sailboards and kayaks. Dry off after a swim with a pleasantwalk through the Parc Balnéair just next to the beach. This 26-hectare (64-acre)stretch of lawns and play areas along the Mediterranean coastline is home toskate parks and a must-see replica of Michelangelo’s David statue.

In September the beach’s annual Festivalof the Wind makes for a spectacular sight. Watch in awe as over 100,000kite-makers and avid enthusiasts float their creations on the coastal winds.

Combine a trip to the beach with a walkto the nearby Borély Park. From here you can explore the nearby Borély Beachand ride its giant Ferris wheel.

Access Prado Beach by a 20-minute bustrip from the city centre. The summer crowds are catered for with hourly boatshuttle service to Prado from Vieux Port. Public bathrooms, changing facilitiesand wheelchair ramps are provided for visitor comfort and accessibility. Thebeach stadium charges a small admission for summer activities.
