Step out the front door and you’re minutes away from the legendary Bagdad Theater, the shelves of Powell’s Books, and more vintage shops and food carts than you can fit into one weekend. If you need to head across the bridge to Downtown or the Pearl District, plan your trip around current traffic.

This 2-bedroom main-floor duplex apartment is set up to be the perfect home base for families, work trips, or a weekend getaway with friends.

Sleep tight: We have three beds with linens and pillows. 2 private bedrooms with queen size and 1 double bed tucked into a living room nook.

    The Neighborhood:

Often compared to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Portland’s Hawthorne District is renowned for its vintage shops, restored theaters, street performers, and vibrant creative characters. This eclectic mix makes it one of the city’s top destinations for both locals and visitors. Adding to its charm, the neighborhood boasts a standout food scene, making a day spent on the bustling Southeast street an effortless delight.

    Getting Around:

🚶 Walking — This neighborhood sits between the Division and Hawthorne corridors, two of Portland's best streets for dining and shopping — both within easy walking distance.

🚌 Bus — TriMet serves the Hawthorne area; check current routes, stops and schedules.

🚲 Biking — Check BIKETOWN for current bike-share locations and plan a route that suits your trip.

🚗 Driving — Street parking is available where signs permit; spaces are not reserved. Rideshare pickup times vary.

✈️ Airport — Plan your PDX trip around current traffic or transit schedules.

    Other Things to Note:

    • Please note this property requires steps to the front door

    • This property is the main floor of a duplex with guests staying above you.

    • This is the main portion of a house that was converted into a duplex. There is also a TINY HOME in the back yard of the property. So there is a total of 3 listings at this address. All separate listings with their own entrances and spaces!

Traffic note: This home sits on a busy SE Cesar Chavez/Hawthorne corridor, so street and upstairs-neighbor noise may be audible, including at night.

The clawfoot tub/shower requires a high step, and its surface can be slippery.

This was not what I expected. Based on the description, this would be a 5 star booking. After my stay, I am a little disappointed. For this property, it appears that quantity is prioritized over quality. We had several issues. First, parking is a nightmare. The property is on a busy 4 lane street. Second, when we arrived, there were only 6 chairs at the dining table. I messaged the property manager, who praised for catching that (the fact they were not aware should have been a red flag). To fix this, they appeared to have Door Dashed me a folding chair. Third, the second floor occupants are noisy and their movement makes sleeping difficult. Fourth, the overall maintenance is not great. The toilet is not secured to the floor and some sketchy wiring for an outlet. The electronic door lock battery died, locking us out. It took several minutes before we were given a code to access a physical key. I am not saying you should not book here; review everything carefully.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday weekend. Upon arrival, the parking space designated for our truck was already occupied by other vehicles. I immediately took photos and notified the homeowner. We were told they would reach out to neighbors to resolve the issue. After leaving for the evening and returning later that night, there were even more vehicles blocking the space. I again sent photos and was told we could park down the street and apologized for the inconvenience. At that point, it became apparent there was an upstairs rental, indicating the property is a duplex—this was not disclosed in the listing. We also observed a travel trailer in the backyard with people living in it, as well as a run-down van parked directly next to the master bedroom with additional occupants. These conditions were unexpected and concerning. The home is located on a very busy street, which combined with the parking issues and undisclosed shared property, significantly impacted our stay. When I raised these concerns and suggested a small gesture—such as a partial refund of the cleaning deposit—I was told to contact VRBO for compensation rather than receiving any resolution from the host. This was an unfortunate experience. A simple acknowledgment and minimal compensation would have gone a long way, but the host’s response was dismissive and unprofessional.
