South Fork Lodge

South Fork Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"I was trying to have a short visit with my grandpa who lives in an assisted living in Osbornd and there aren't many hotel options that aren't an hour away. South Fork Lodge was right in Osborne and accommodated my family perfectly. It was very well stocked for anything we could need in the kitchen or bathroom. It was very well cleaned. There were movies available on the TV and a hot tub. The weather didn't permit use of the hot tub unfortunately. The owners were very responsive."

"Great house! Stayed for a week with our adult children, their spouses, 2 yr old grandson & our hunting dogs. House was very well equipped in ALL areas! More than plenty of everything needed in a house plus the little extras in case you forgot something. We all really enjoyed our stay! It was great being able to get all of us under 1 roof & not be cramped. Tom, the caretaker, took us hunting & is hilarious! He knows his stuff! Thank you so much!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Portis?
The best area to stay in Portis is directly within the town centre, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and the main road.Portis is a very small, rural town, and its "centre" is essentially the area surrounding the intersection of Main Street and Kansas Highway 9. Here, you'll find the few local businesses, including the post office and any small eateries or shops that might be open. Accommodation options are extremely limited, often consisting of a small, independently run motel or guesthouse, or perhaps a holiday rental. For travellers passing through or looking for a quiet, rural stopover, staying in this central area simplifies access to the main highway for onward travel.
When is the best time to go to Portis?
The best time to go to Portis, Kansas is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October).During these periods, the weather is typically mild and pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the local farmlands or visiting nearby natural attractions. You'll avoid the intense heat and humidity of summer, as well as the colder temperatures and potential for snow in winter. For those interested in local events, late spring and early autumn often feature community gatherings and harvest festivals in smaller Kansas towns, offering a glimpse into local life.
