About this property

Stunning 1BR Lakefront Dog Friendly - Hot Tub

  • Summary:

Take in a spectacular scene of evergreen mountains, sunlight filtering through the trees, and the deep teal waters of Lake Sutherland at this waterfront home on the edge of Olympic National Park.

This two-bedroom, lakefront home sits on the north shore of Lake Sutherland, a wonderful place to swim from the dock, launch the provided kayak, or fish for rainbow trout, coastal cutthroat trout, and kokanee all summer. The national park boundary is just across the lake while downtown Port Angeles is 14 miles east.

    The Space:

Whether you're planning to hike, kayak, or fish, you'll find the perfect place to end each afternoon on the open, tree-lined deck. This stunning spot overlooking the lake is ideal for morning coffee with a view, afternoon barbecues on the gas grill, and evening soaks in the private hot tub. A firepit just off the deck provides a cozy spot for s'mores and stories at night.

The house is full of Pacific Northwest charm, offering wood-paneled walls and ceilings, windows that frame the lake, and a pellet stove to curl up to in the evenings. The upper, main level includes a sitting area with a TV and DVD player, an open kitchen with every essential, and two bistro dining tables to choose from. The two bedrooms are split between the two floors, with the lower-level primary bedroom offering a desk workspace and glass doors that open to a second shaded deck and hot tub.

The view and deck were the main attractions. Also very relaxing to use the hot tub on lower level. Cabin was rustic. Deck furniture could have been more comfortable but was adequate. A steep hill to go up and down with bags/luggage.

Magical

Eagles Nest was a beautiful peaceful relaxing property. We enjoying swimming, kayaking, and using the hot tub. This property met all of our needs for being convenient to ONP while allowing time to rejuvenate at the lake. The views are stunning from the top deck!

The best getaway for a while

We booked this lodge with an expectation for something relatively good, but we got super excited at what we experienced here. The entire property was clean, a lot of dishes, pots and everything you need to stay. The view from the kitchen and primary bedroom is breathless. We spent almost all day dawn the hill on the dock. Peace and beauty is this place.

Best view you could ask for

Eagles nest was amazing. The view couldn’t be better and the cabin was perfect for my fiancé and I. Even though it is located off the highway, the vehicle noise was drowned out by the beautiful mountainside and lake. We had a sedan so we didn’t feel comfortable going down the hill with it however there was parking above that worked great. The property is central to several parks and amenities. Would stay again.

Premium location, sub-par kitchen

This is a spectacular location; a memorable home. Unfortunately, the kitchen attention: the oven doesn't work, the back burners barely simmer, no toaster, dim from several burnt-out lights, and missing lots of necessities (whisk, sealable containers for leftovers). You don't expect much from a vacation kitchen, but this one was notably sub-par, especially for a remote location where you want to be able to bring your food. The grill worked ok, so we survived, but wasted some food (frozen pizza) and expected better for the price. There were a couple of other things: the hopper for the heating stove makes an unbearable grinding noise, there is a old-fashioned light timer in the kitchen that loudly ticks 24/7 and the outdoor seating is really lacking. Even with all those bumps, it's hard to imagine a more beautiful and inspiring location. The house is perched on a very steep hill overlooking a pristine lake and a few miles from incredible hiking around lake crescent. It is as convenient of a place as you can find for exploring Olympic National Park. The place is beautiful and reasonably spacious for a mountain cabin (the tv area is tiny, but who wants to be inside when staying at a place like this). Some notes: Only reserve if you are fit enough for lots of steep slopes, don't bring your rental car down the driveway, and the access is about 100 years east of what Google Maps claims.

Bigger than expected, peaceful retreat

It turned out to be bigger than I expected. The bathroom is a good size and the upper deck is huge. The kitchen was big enough to be comfortable to cook in, but we mostly grilled out on the deck. The spa was so nice after spending the day hiking. The path down to the dock was steep but it’s a nice dock and we were able to use the kayaks provided. The driveway is level but the gravel road down is quite steep. The booklet in the cabin recommends parking up on the road next to the highway if you don’t have AWD. The washer and dryer aren’t functional, but all the other appliances worked. I really appreciated the electric kettle. The location is really good for visiting Lake Crescent. We were able to hike from the Storm King ranger station and also bike around the lake on the Spruce RR trail. It’s not too far from the coast if you want to visit the beaches. The big bed was a bit noisy and hard so we didn’t love it. It’s in the room downstairs with no door if that matters to people. We didn’t have extra guests but the upstairs bedroom with the bunk beds looked nice for younger kids. The view is stunning. There’s several large trees on the property so it’s a nice mix of view and privacy. The traffic noise is noticeable outside on the deck, but we otherwise didn’t hear it. Overall we were very happy with this place and we’d be glad to come back again.

Lake stay with school age kids

The inside of the house is fine if you’re okay with a more rustic stay. The doc and lake are amazing! The kayaks are in great shape and are a nice bonus to have access to. The cabin was lacking basic amenities for the price point and the outside areas were junky and run down. The description of the steep hillside is slightly inaccurate, there are rusty pipes sticking out along the route that are tripping hazards for young kids.

We loved our stay at the Eagle's Nest! Just right for family of four adults. After several days of hectic travel it was the perfect spot for rest and relaxation. We enjoyed using all the amenities: hot tub, grill, kayaks and fishing rods! Items of note for future travelers; 1) Google maps may take you to a close but wrong location (we missed our turn off by 50 feet) - confirm final directions with rental company. The good news was we were able to connect immediately with rental company to get precise final destination directions. 2) the pathway down to the dock is rugged as advertised and you need to be hands free for balance on descent/ascent so put any items in a backpack/ruck sack when going to and from dock. 3) the dishwasher was not working as advertised when we were there but who cares with only 4 people! we enjoyed cleaning up together! 4) only the clothes dryer is for use by travelers so don't plan on getting your travel laundry caught up on at this location. A good time was had by all and we agreed this is a return destination for our family!

Really the only good thing about this place was the view and location to the park (which hurricane ridge was closed) :( . Hot tub was ok but it was on the bottom deck so view was obstructed. House was not very great. No furniture to sit on decks to enjoy the view. No kitchen amenities like spices or salt. No washer/dryer which is needed for the area. The TV or DVD player never worked the whole time so no TV. The path down to the lake was not clear and very steep. We had a hard time finding the property. Little contact from the owners just in the beginning booking.

We really enjoyed our stay - particularly the view of the lake, hanging out on the dock and taking the kayaks out on the lake. The cabin was also very clean upon our arrival. The only issue we experienced was weak water pressure, but this may just be a nuance with "cabin-living".

A wonderful escape on Lake Sutherland

This cabin on Lake Sutherland was a perfect hideaway for our family vacation! With beautiful views of the lake on both decks and a deck with kayaks, we truly loved this lake house oasis! It’s location is ideal for Lake Crescent, ferries to BC from Port Angeles, and other destinations in Olympic National Park like the Hoh rain forest, Rialto beach and Ruby beach.

All the information was not included in the listing, such as all the steep stairs that led down to the beachfront... There were pipes protruding out of the steps it was extremely unsafe... the amenities were awful... They gave us one roll of toilet paper for 2 people for 5 days... You could not use the washing machine, but they only will give you 4 towels. The love seat in the supposed living room was barely big enough for 1person to sit on let alone 2. So there is no smart TV, they do, however, supply a DVD player, but the remote didn't work say I see you couldn't watch any dvds... The first time I got in a hot tub, there was so much chloride in it that it was literally burning our eyes. There were also ants on the kitchen counter, which made it so I didn't even want to have any food out at all... You can also not use the dishwasher, for reasons unknown. I can't even believe I slept there 3 nights.. We left a day early and didn't even say anything... Do yourselves a favor...and DO NOT rent this place
