Amazing experience hosted by volunteer wardens who could not have done more to make me feel welcome. Perfect location, bike storage, beautiful garden, and a museum and house tours to enjoy too. An amazing stay in a historic gem.
I had a wonderful stay here. The property has a deeply fascinating history, and learning about it added so much meaning to the experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and supportive, they truly made me feel welcome. I really enjoyed my time here, and the city itself is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend!
Talbot House was amazing, from the friendly staff to the upgraded rooms which were comfortable and yet maintained the spirit of this special place. Thank you for an excellent stay.
Can’t begin to describe what a great stay this is. A real experience, if you are doing the battlefields, then staying or visiting here is a must. Comfy beds, great facilities and good breakfast. Loft chapel is probably the nicest chapel or church I have ever seen mainly because of the emotion involved. Thoroughly recommend.
Talbot House has a history that is so important and our stay had extra meaning just for that reason. We really enjoyed chatting with other guests, too. The bathroom facilities were immaculate and the beds were very comfortable. It was truly like visiting a 'home'. I would recommend to everyone!

Excellent period house and museum with loads of stories connected to the war. Staff are brilliant.
This historic place is impressive to say the least. paintings, photographs and signage on the walls were both beautiful and entertaining. The location is perfect for visiting Poperinge and surrounding area. The back garden is inviting and relaxing. The breakfast was delicious in a lovely setting. I highly recommend Talbot House!
We had a wonderful stay at the Talbot House and will definitely stay there again when we return. It is an historic place that has been well preserved. I highly recommend it.
A unique and immersive opportunity to stay in a property used as a social club by soldiers in WW1 and is now a museum.
Friendly and helpful staff (especially Chris!).

Hotel or museum?
Its bedrooms in the old house are not sound proof in any way and doors slamming into the late evening with recorded historical voice tapes and a chess games room just outside the bedrooms stop you having a good nights sleep. In my opinion the old house should be maintained as just a museum and dining and kitchen area. It doesn't work as a museum and a hotel. The breakfasts were well presented and abundant in variety and the bread, cheeses and ham super fresh.
If you're interested in history, you should stay here. This was used by British soldiers during WWI. A piece of history that you can connect with. A rare experience and well worth supporting. The house is great and filled with history and there is a museum which offers free admission to guests at the hotel. We did share a bathroom, but it was always available and very well kept. I will definitely stay here again.
I stayed here one night when we were doing WWI battlefield tours. This was a wonderful find. So much world war one memorabilia. The rooms were simple but comfortable. Shared bathrooms were clean and quite private. The grounds and the home are just beautiful. Very much in keeping with the theme of our trip. Highly recommend it.
Great for a family. Much more than just the museum
We visited for a quirky break while traveling from Disneyland to the UK. A family of for with a 5yo and 1yo, we staying in a room with bunkbeds. The beds were really comfortable with deep pillows.
Simon welcomed us at 9pm after a 3 hour drive and took the time to show us to our room and explain the hotel and amenities.
It is a very old building, so expect the odd creaking floorboard, but the upkeep was very well maintained.
The next day we went for a walk into the town centre, which was less than a minute along the road, where we found a local market. Fresh food, clothing and accessories. We also found a huge garden with a selection of garden games.
The welcome from wardens Marilyn and Larry was fantastic, they have a wealth of knowledge and great interest in the house and history of the area. We enjoyed our chats with them.
The room was very clean and comfortable. Lovely to have information about the house in the room for us to read at our leisure.
Everything about this stay was absolutely perfect, from the way we were greeted at the front door, the wonderful welcomers and the opportunity to stay in what is a museum.
It was a humbling enjoyable stay and we will definitely be returning next year x
A little corner of England but on the continent. This is a unique property that almost feels like a privilege to stay in given the history and how it has been preserved. After a week on the continent drinking coffee, it was a massive relief to get a nice pot of tea served with a cup and saucer!!
What a lovely experience, welcomed by the wardens with a kind and warming smile. Followed by a perfect guiding towards the bike shed and my room. The communal bathroom was spotless. The general vibe was as if I was in a bed and breakfast in the British countryside. The garden is so peaceful and could tell you a million tales...
I can't wait till my next stay.
Booking for a family via hotels.com doesn’t really prepare you for the museum experience you get here.
Our friendly hosts were kind and helpful. We loved the attached museum and the kids loved that the room was actually a ‘display piece’ too - but magically we were allowed to go past the barriers.
I’d plan the restaurant in Popering in advance (especially with children).
Interesting and historic hotel with beautiful grounds and very comfy beds.
