This place was exactly what we were looking for on a fall getaway. Great drives, great views and great hiking within minutes of the property. The shed was fully finished and furnished with great bedrooms and a nice kitchen/family area centered around a fun fire place, with no tv - the way it’s supposed to be up north. Robin was proactively in contact with us to ensure we had everything we needed, and the check in and check out processes were quick and easy. We would stay here again!
With no TV or Internet, this vacation made us truly unplug and enjoy each other. We did a lot of reading, game playing and my husband and daughter put together a 900 piece puzzle in two nights! We enjoyed our walks to Lake Pepin and our daily excursions.
My friends and I really enjoyed our stay here. The home was clean, beds and furnishings were comfortable, and the hosts were very accommodating. It's well located near local shops. Feels secluded with all the trees surrounding the property. About the trains: yes, there are trains close by and the horns can be heard inside with the windows closed, however, we weren't bothered by them. We liked this property and would stay here again. We've already recommended it to friends.
Nice get away from the city.
- Good size lot for kids to play; we played a lot football
- Great size fire pit to enjoy
- Great size dining table to enjoy meals and play board games
- It will be helpful to inform guest no basic condomens not available - salt pepper, oil etc. Will be good to know to bring with
- Wish utensils were of better quality, additional quantity and better organized
- Train noise was communicated can be very loud at times and every 20 mins or so
- Sulphur smell in the water takes a little bit to get use to. It was great that fridge was stocked up with water bottles.

Loud Trains!
The living quarters were nice and clean, as advertised in the listing. Fairly close to towns but far enough away to avoid the tourists. Tap water has a heavy sulfur odor, but some bottles of water were provided for drinking. Garage door was out of order, so we didn't get to open it up to enjoy the screened room concept we were looking forward to. But the biggest disappointment was how loud this property is. It's advertised as a relaxing retreat in the woods. They forgot to mention that there is a train crossing about 100 yards away. With a rural crossing, you not only get the train noise and light shining into the yard, but you get 3 horn blasts plus the loud clanking of the crossing arms. A relaxing night by the fire was interrupted by this several times an hour. And yes, you can definitely hear it from inside even with the windows closed. If you book this property knowing to expect this, it's probably a 5 star. However, if your goal is peaceful evenings and a quiet night's sleep, you, too, will be disappointed.
It was difficult to find the property as the sign with the property name and the fire number were overgrown with foliage. The property itself was perfect for us! The kids were able to unplug and play inside and out safely.
We were up from the Chicago area for our son’s wedding. We were so impressed with the home and the beautiful setting. We wish we had more time to spend just enjoying the views and visiting the area. We will definitely be back!
This was a great place to stay. It felt isolated, yet was very close to both Stockholm and Pepin to grab coffee or bum around. We did quite a bit of wandering from Winona to Red Wing, etc and this was perfectly situated between them all. Everything we needed was supplied. The water pressure in the shower was great. Having a washer/dryer to wash our swimsuits was a plus. I appreciated the host having white noise machines in the bedrooms in case the train noise was bothersome. (The train noise was NOT bothersome at all, by the way. But I did appreciate the heads up about it.) The temp of the cabin was very comfortable and adjustable. The fireplace provided some fun ambiance. Check-in was easy. Check-out cleanup instructions were low key with very reasonable cleanup requests. Would definitely stay here again… thanks for a fun weekend!
